Hey everybody
My mother 61 yo for about 1 year ago felt sometimes her mouth got a bit slower pronouncing some words especially when emotional, but often she is fine talking . Lately she became really emotional and can start crying easily and the same for giggling. She started feeling weakness in her left hand , like struggling to cut a vegetable sometimes.that s it . The neurologist did an emg and said to come back again . Can anyone tell me if these emg results look like als ?? Thanks you

If I understand your profile, Suzana, she has been diagnosed? But we always advise a second opinion (perhaps in Spain if that is practical? Or you could send them the test results and do a video consultation?) and I would continue to suggest that. The symptoms you discuss such as her changing emotions, weakness, and difficulty with speech do align with ALS but can also accord with other conditions. If she does have ALS, it sounds like it is progressing more slowly than many people.

There is a medication called Nuedexta that may help with her emotions, but I think it may be expensive in Morocco. Or if you can find a compounding pharmacy, it is made up of dextromethorphan HBr (20mg) and quinidine sulfate (10mg).

Best,
Laurie

Thank you laurie for your answer , yes the neurologist said that she think about this illness and asked to do biological analyses to exclude other causes of the motorneuron deficit which is less then 10% chance that it could be something else and 90 % left for als .This really made me loose my mind , i m really troubled right now . I just came from another country after 10 years to finally settle down and take care of my mom and give her a better life . then this. I want someone who really can read emg and tell me if this is close to an als . Because maybe the neurologist miss readed the emg as this illness is very rare and not often seen by neurologists here.or missed . I wish someone could tell me their opinion while i m seeking for other neurologists
