On death certificates, do they actually put ALSs cause of death or respiratory failure etc?

For veterans, it's important that they list ALS as the cause of death, since ALS is a service connected disease and the family gets benefits from that.

Just looked at my pals death certificate. Under cause of death - ALS. Nothing else.
