My mom diagnosed last summer and symptoms started around the fall of 2020. So far since she has been diagnosed, she can no longer walk or really use her arms, so the muscle mass have definitely gone down, but she has also gained almost over 10 pounds, shes usually a very petite 95-100 but now shes almost 110lbs.

Is this due to water retention from inactivity or some sort of inflammation? Her clothes are all tight now.

Does she have swollen extremities? 10 pounds of water weight should show that. Is it possible that she is just eating more or differently and is less active? Our neurologists generally like a little extra weight as higher bmis correlate with slower progression and they also know that when swallow starts to go most PALS lose weight before getting a feeding tube. No matter what their weight most PALS end up with a Buddha belly so called due to decrease core strength.
can you get her seen by someone ( maybe pcp ) to rule out fluid retention?
