Hi All

I’m 38 and currently into 4 months of symptoms of what I fear could be something bad.

It all started January with an eye twitch that never went away for over 5 weeks and was almost constant all of that time (I was highly distressed over this, as I’ve never experienced that before) The day after this seemed to wear off I noticed my calves were twitching and soon it was widespread over body mainly legs. My tongue trembles very badly when sticking out and has twitched. Also my lips shake uncontrollably when they are puckered

I was very concerned over this so had all my bloods done with no issues and paid to see a Neurologist who conducted a clinical exam with no issues and didn’t offer any further tests.

Not long after I started experiencing stiffness in my left hand and a tight almost bruised feeling in my thenar muscle which is still there today and there is some atrophy in this muscle. I can still grip and have full strength but the thenar aches at times and is always tight (struggles to touch thumb to pinky).

My left knee is in some discomfort too which has been the case for over 3 weeks now, I had similar in November but this came with a lot of pain and anti inflammatory and brace helped clear this up (still had lingering weakness and pain when squatting in this knee) however now my knee doesn’t have this pain just discomfort and feeling of weakness which won’t get better.

For the past week I’ve been having the feeling of phlegm stuck behind my nose meaning I’m constantly cleaning my throat non stop. I don’t have a cold and phlegm is clear in colour. I don’t suffer allergies or reflux. I’ve not had trouble eating or drinking (choking) it just feels like I can never clear the stuff behind my nose although nothing appears when blowing.

I’m also suffering badly from Insomnia, I’ve been getting 2 hours or so every night for weeks now. I’ve tried sleeping medication to no avail. Nothing helps and I know my extreme fear and anxiety is not helping.

It all feels this is progressing fast with no symptoms getting better while more keep appearing and I’m in a scary place. I am going back to the Neurologist on Saturday to request an EMG.

Thanks for listening

Adult-onset allergies, including to food, are a definite thing, so I wouldn't rule those out too quickly. You can track your sleep even with a borrowed wearable to see if movement, O2, pulse rate, sleep stages, are as they should be, calling for a sleep study that your GP can order, I believe, if not.

Much of what you describe could be traced back to sleep, potentially. Since much of it is going on with your L side, you could video your sleep as well, and reconsider how well your pillow, mattress, overlay are supporting you.

I don't see any evidence for ALS here.
