Hello, im a 56 year old male that is freaking out to say the least and hope you guys can give me some insight. First I am diagnosed with anxiety / depression disorder most of my life. I do work out daily to help with my mental condition.

4 months ago i got a twitch in my left bicep that lasted 24 hours and never returned. Didnt think much about it at the time. Then last month i got covid and recovered within a week. Well since that, i have had non stop canker sores and aches in my arms and legs . Not pain , just a feeling of tiredness and over worked. No muscle weakness that i can tell. I also have had an eye lid twitch for over a week and yesterday i had twiching going on in both caves that was happening all over the cavs. It subsided today but im very concerned that this could be onset of ALS. I have my wife scared to death because im freaking out so bad. I have lost 2 friends to ALS and im more than concerned because i saw the affects of this disease first hand.
Thank you

Please go see a doctor. All your current symptoms sound like post viral syndrome. They do not sound like ALS. Also tell the doctor your anxiety is affecting you severely now

Thank you Nikki for responding.
I went to my dr and he did full exam and ordered tons of blood work with a course of steroids. I still have the intermittent twitching in calves and the aches in arms and legs. So what your saying is this doesn't sound like early onset of ALS ?
I know that you stress to people to stay off of google but its so hard when they say that twitching is one of the main symptoms then i flip out. I cant sleep over the fear .
Thank you again for all the people you talk down on this site. Your a very good person for taking the time to give your opinions

I'd be more concerned about left over Covid issues myself. Smart of your doctor to order labs. Check for bacteria and vitamin deficiencies. A nerve conduction study helps r/o muscle issues so request that after your labs

Thanks for replying back
All blood work came back good.Im waiting for Cleveland Clinic neuro to call me with appt. Still have aches or fatigue in arms and legs that seem to get better at night and 24/7 muscle twitching in calves . Anxious to say the least.
Thanks

The odds are still very much in your favor, and I agree that this sounds more systemic than a neurologic problem. Try not to worry.

Rzbo....do you have Dr. Levin? He was the one that did most of my testing, including 2 emg's, lumbar puncture, etc etc. The last time I saw him he said we only have two more tests we can do ....a full head to toe MRI and a Nerve biopsy...and he said, I think you need to get a second opinion as I believe it is ALS. I ended up going to University hospital, were I am still currently going (Dr. Sawlani). The MRI was completed (came back clean), and the muscle biopsy was performed where they saw nerve damage. I went through over a year of a full gamete of tests. Before you worry yourself too much, get tests done. I have no reason to, but I still have my doubts I have ALS (or maybe that is my denial), but for at least two years now, it has only really affected my legs...to where I am mainly in a wheelchair. Hopefully I am just a very SLOW progressor!

My prayers to you.

Hello,
I saw dr Shook last monday at the Cleve Clinic .He spent about an hour with me . He said that he didnt think it was als. He felt fasciculations were benign with no weakness. I did more blood work that came back good. He wants me to wait a couple months until he does an emg. So i dont know, im still freaked out and still have the same symptoms for over 3 months now. I hope hes right. Thank you for responding to my post and i wish you the best. God bless

I think you will be good Ray. Mine came on, and I thought I had a pinched nerve in my back or something. I "was" a football coach and the first time I fell was at a football practice. It was crazy, my legs were so weak that I couldnt even pick them up! Thats when I went to see my primary care doc...he did the MRI, was clean. No stenosis, nothing. So I went about my business.... I ended up falling two or three more times, at gas stations, grocery stores...just plain weakness in my legs! I said something is definately wrong! I went back and thats when my doc told me that I need to see a neruologist. Also from then until this day, my legs twitch non stop. My legs have atrophy.. So, again, there are what seems to be some real telling signs when its ALS or not. Again, it has not reached my upper body much, that I know of, however, my shoulders have really become weak, and they almost feel like they are at times dislocated. After my last EMG about a month ago, my doc talked about "possible" Kennedy disease....which (if anyone else knows better, please tell) I believe is similar to ALS, but its takes much longer and a person has close to a normal life span... We'll see, I just had some blood taken for them to send to find that out.

Keep your head up and positive vibes!!!

Best,

De
