I have a questions and perhaps some of them could be answered, should my husband apply for help now under the medical diagnoses "probable ALS" or wait till he has a definitive diagnoses ( not that i want him to have this diagnoses I am praying it is lead poisoning or lymes disease ), he already had great diffculty with his job ( he is still working fulltime but can no longer converse with the cutomers due to his garbled speech and his difficulty forming sentences he is also drooling and this is becoming embarrasing for him like you would not believe ) also he has a very physical job and is also finding his breathing & physical abilities much more difficult due to weakness in his leg & chest area :0( or should we wait. My heart breaks for him, I also want to know what to ask this big als specialist at the appointment we have next friday please help P.S. would it help us to have a son who is a USAF Captain who just cam back from his 5th deployment and has been on active war duty for 5 years is there anyway his service could help as he wants to help his dad HUGS from Kim.

I have his birth certificate I will need to send away for our marriage licence as the one we have is torn "gulp" mostly because it is almost 30yrs old, as to his discharge papers they are in storage in TX with all our others things so will have to send away for this hopefully it would not take long to get a copy "-( Sadie thank you you have been a lifeline to me today I have to work tonight and really do not want to go in because I want to spend every waking hour I have being with my husband but that is not reality :0(.

Also I am going to get my husband joined on here so you can chat with him

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center west Lebanon New Hampshire to see a Dr Cohen

I think so is that when they probe you with needles for a long time ( his an hour and a half ) including his tongue if so yes he has had it and it showed signs that something was wrong so this day he got a probable als diagnoses and no answers nada from the doctors I thought it was strange when they were setting up this appoinment they said to my husband please bring your wife next time when you are here for this test, then after they took us into a side room & said well we think it is als ( whispered to us it is a fatal illenss) but we want to send you to a top specialist, I am like "what is als and they basically just said nothing between the probe doc and the neurologist except it is fatal they just kept saying you need to see this top als specialist and sent us out of the room "sigh" so perhaps he just needs to be tested for lymes and lead etc I live and hope and pray

I have been to this hospital in the past a long time ago for my own health issues & it is a good hospital, here is the kick I raised 4 children without ever learning to drive ( long story ) and this hospital is about an hour and a half from our apt ( this from what I've seen is not as far as some folks have to travel for appts) and I have a phobia about driving and now realize if my husband is not well I am going to need to drive and I am mortified ! I am sure many of you will not understand as many of you drive but for me it is a very scary thought, what am I going to do ? is the question I keep asking myself, I know I might have to step up to the plate but the plate feels like a deep cavern as does the fact my hubby is not well.

My son just turned 16 this past summer. He absolutely hated driving - found it difficult, stressful, you name it. Because of my husband's ALS, I needed Daniel to start driving. We took it very, very slowly. You can do it. Just start now. Take it slowly, stay in familiar areas to start with and, before you know it, you'll get the hang of it.

YES.....Apply now...If he gets a diagnosis of ALS the VA will retro pay you back from that day..get on Home HadIt.com Veteran To Veteran LLC there is alot of info of what forms you need to fill out...plus there is a rule that hopefully will go into effect in May of this year for 100% which would help out alot...better then 30%

good luck

We sent away for his DD214 yesterday it was free online he has an issued request # we do not have a printer so we followed instructions and mailed it off to ST Louis yesterday, as to driving locally I have asked my hubby if he will teach me and he has said NO WAY even with his impending ill health ( can't say I blame him and bewteen his speech issue and the fact it would stress him) , I know hardly any people here as we just moved here 6 months ago & I only wrk part time so not sure I can afford driving lessons so I have to come up with a plan ! Marti thank you for the link :0))) hugs to all.

Pudge....make sure you make copies off all your paper work. Also when sending anything off have it certified, so the VA can't say that they didn't receive any paper work..Good Luck.......Also get in touch with the PVA...If he gets the dignosis they can make the paper work go through faster...

My husband has been classified as 100% service connected 100% disability. Currently, we get 1 hour of help every morning from a CNA. Why can't we get any other help?
