Good afternoon, and thank you for taking the time to answer all these questions. Mine is pretty simple; is it possible for ALS onset to occur in an arm and a leg on the same side of the body at once? If so, do you have any information on how often this happens? Thank you again.

It is, what has your doctor told you?

Thank you for your response. I am waiting to hear from a neurologist about a date and time for an EMG, so Im still in the "Google and worry myself to death phase" Can I ask if that is something that happens often to your knowledge, or can you direct me to where I might read about it myself? Thank you again for taking the time to answer my question.

Simultaneous onset in 2 separate areas which is what you are asking would be exceeding rare I think and the progression would be very fast. It is not unusual to have symptoms and or findings in 2 areas by the time of diagnosis but a history will almost always find that there was something in one area first- whether it be leg, arm or bulbar.

Agree completely. Best advice pending the EMG is to "discontinue Google" and take a nice nature walk.

Best,

Good morning guys,

Unlike others, I am not here to get a diagnosis; Im in the process of getting in to see a neurologist for that. My question is how do I push my worry over these symptoms to the back of my mind, and still have a functional, and somewhat happy life until I do get a diagnosis?

I recommend taking the position that you don’t have ALS (because the overwhelming majority of folks who visit here do not) and view your upcoming visit to the doctor as information-gathering to find out what you do have. Then busy yourself with activities you enjoy with people you enjoy, maybe take a trip somewhere. See your primary doctor if you need help with meds for anxiety.

To answer you firstly stop googling and definitely stop coming here.
We get it - most of us had to wait months to see specialists.
As Karen says, if you can't stop get straight to your doctor and ask for help with your anxiety. No matter what is wrong with you, today is all you have and if you waste this time in anxious thought patterns you will never get this time back.
You do not present with ALS symptoms, even if you did your anxiety is a big issue. Please get help and don't come back here til you have an EMG result to report. This is said with kindness, not to dismiss your feelings.
