Hi. Apologies in advance for this post but I'm looking for reassurance as I feel like I'm going out of my mind with worry.

Nearly 2 years ago I started experiencing widespread twitching. I have managed to convince myself it's nothing to worry about the majority of the time.

2 weeks ago i noticed a twitches in my tongue. I can feel some but when looking at my tongue at rest I can see others that I can't feel. I'm also experiencing a strange sensation down the one side of my tongue and feel like I have a lump in my throat on occasions.

The tongue twitch has made me panic. I feel no weakness, see no atrophy, have no trouble speaking or eating/drinking. I do occasionally cough after eating.

I'm a 42 year old female. My question is, should I be concerned and should I try to get a neurologist appointment?

Thank you in advance.

Hello-

We ask that people read here first: Read Before Posting. It explains why twitching absent any of the hallmark symptoms of ALS points elsewhere. It also recommends that a doctor be a person's first stop if they have concerns about their health. Your doctor can provide you better feedback than we can, as they can observe what you are describing, provide an exam and direct your care from there. I am sure you will be reassured.

Take care.

As ShiftKicker points out, your PCP should be your first port of call. This could be anything, from allergies or a salivary gland issue, to nothing. I see no reason to suspect ALS.

Thank you both for your replies
