For the last 5 months I've had some interesting symptoms, mainly with weakness/stiffness/twitching in my right arm:
  • I can only hold the hair dryer over my head for a few seconds before my arm gets tired
  • Hand gets tired very quickly using chop sticks, writing with pen, twisting a pepper shaker, buttoning shirt, etc
  • Revolving door at the office has gotten much harder to push open
  • When I grip something, my fingers don't return to the natural position, and stay stiff/stuck, it's very hard to unclinch my fist afterwards
  • Pretty consistent twitching, it's visible through a suit jacket, looks like I'm trying to flex
The muscle twitching happens throughout my whole body as of the last month or so. I was referred to a neuro, I have a clean MRI, and EMG scheduled in 2 weeks. My assumption is that these symptoms are due to maybe BFS/stress. But a doctor recently mentioned ALS, and was a little concerned with my grip strength, etc. I understand that twitching is super common, but curious about my fingers almost locking in place/being too weak to move after griping something. Have other folks experienced something similar?

Thanks!

Hello-

Sorry you find yourself here. I admit, it always amazes me when people report their doctor, especially one who is not a neuromuscular specialist, mentions ALS before all the tests have been conducted.

Hopefully your EMG/NCS will provide some more information for you. This test does more than eliminate/indicate ALS, as there are many reasons for conduction issues (should there be any indicated). While it's difficult to wait, your test is very soon as these things go and you will have some answers shortly.

Please take care
