Does everyone "see" their muscles twitching or just feel them or what? Is it constant.

Most of the time I just feel mine but only rarely see the muscle actually moving but it's constant especially when I relax.

Also........Does anyone have muscle pain or finger stiffness? Do your muscles feel tendor when you touch them firmly? When I cross my legs for instance, the calves hurt from leaning up against the other leg or if I sqeaze my arm, it hurts.

Anyone? Thx~

Your twitching sounds like mine. I don't see it usually, because I don't look and/or because mostly for me it's my thighs which are covered by pants or shorts. But I think it's pretty constant. I've learned to tune it out; I only notice it when I stop and think about it, and then, yup it's still there!

As for muscle pain, I don't have any at all.

hi,

I have all kinds off twitches. I have ones that I dont see and I have ones that jump through my pants and I can see them through my clothes! mainly the thigh or calf ones. Then I think the twitching is going away and then it is back!

I have painfull fingers that feel stiff but I can move. My muscles hurt big time. They feel sore and even when my baby sits on my thigh it can hurt. It feels like my muscles are tight. sometimes I have my boys walk on my back or squeeze my hands and feet, it hurts but feels good too.

hang in there!

muscles tender to touch

Hi,

I have twitches 24-7 and I can see and feel them. I wanted to comment on your muscle soreness, as I also share that complaint. My hamstrings especially are sore to the touch by the end of the day, my calves can be sore to touch-almost as if they are bruised. This has been going on for over a year, with the soreness much worse now. Don't know if it is related but now I have a sore/stiff shoulder and achilles tendon, all on left side. Those two issues are becoming bothersome enough that I see my GP tomorrow for hopefully some relief.

Bmore,

No, this particular part of the forum is used by many that do not have ALS. and many that have such symptoms do not have any form of ALS,

BMORE,

I have found that muscle soreness, at least as I experience it, does not seem to be connected with ALS. I was "cleared" of ALS by a clean EMG a few months ago.

Constant Muscle Twitching

I have been diagnosed with ALS and have muscle twitching all the time (in varying degrees) over large swaths of my body. I have a lot of it across my upper arms, shoulders, and chest but with NO muscle weakness at all and this has been going on for several months. The ALS specialist I visited did not find this odd, even though I have heard weakness usually precedes fasciculations in those corresponding areas. I do, however, have a little weakness in my legs where twitching also occurs.

I am the same as Awieleba. I have twitches 24/7 all over my body, most you can not see but some look awful...really strong violent and noticeable. As for muscle pain, I get that as well, at the moment my arms are beginning to get a little week and my arm muscles are so sore. A lot of stiffness in my calves as well. I have psuedo bulbar.

My twitching has gone on now for 8 months, started off as a 24/7, then swtched to random big twitches, and now is buzzing. It has started to subside somewhat in the last 5 weeks but has been replace with buzzing? It feels like low voltage electricity is running deep in my leg..or arm or where ever. As far as muscle pain, this has been my first symptom, way before the twitching. It is a soreness and stiffness like I worked out really hard. It started in my left mid back and over 2 years has spread to my neck, arm, and thumb. I dont have any clinical weakness at this time. I also dont have any diagnosed of anything significant, I have had 3 clean EMG's over the last year.

CB, I have buzzing now as well! What is up with that? Several times at first I felt like maybe I was sitting/lying on my vibrating cell phone! The buzzing is not nearly as strong as the cell phone but is noticeable none the less. So very bizarre. I guess as far as unexplained symptoms go, it is pretty mild. I had to laugh when it came around, because I had heard people comment on it here and had the good sense not to be alarmed by it. Of course, if it ever feels like touching an electric fence (which I did repeatedly as child. dumb.) you can bet your b-hind I will be at the ER-

Unknown ... I'll try and describe mine.

I rarely feel any twitching ... I have felt them occasionally in my bicep and shoulder and (rarely) in my torso ... but most twitches are small and very subtle. In fact, "twitch" is really the wrong word. That suggests a much more defined and focused movement. My "twitches" are usually just small, gentle muscle movements. A muscle will rise slightly and subside with no sensation. Usually I have to stare at an area for a while before I can detect them.

I realized recently that I may have more extensive "twitching" than I realized, because some is so minute. Looking at my face with a magnifying mirror recently, I saw that there are (almost) microscopic twitches all over my lips, which have been atrophying and losing strength for a while. I can't see the twitches without the magnifyer and can't feel them.

(I HOPE the above doesn't send any BFSers out to get magnifying glasses to look at their bodies.)

I have had muscle aches ... not pain, but achy like charlie horses ... but they are extremely brief, just momentary, and usually when I wake up. I'll stretch my arms, and ... opps ... the bicep hurts for a second or two, then is fine. Late afternoon, I sometimes get real pain in my shoulders, back and neck, but it goes away if I lie down and rest.

Hope that helps.

Remember me?

Hi April (and everyone),

Remember me? I was just reading and saw your reply to another and thought I would write to see how your doing. The picture of your kids is adorable. I'm hoping your feeling well with no new symptoms.

I do log on occasionally to see how every one is. Since my clean emg I have really put my worries in the back of my mind. If my twitching would ever stop, I'm sure I could stop worrying all together.

To tell you the truth, since I wrote in about my twitching being a false alarm, I kind of felt like I should not write in at all. Sorry if I disappointed anyone, but I don't feel as sure of my good health. I keep thinking about going back to my neurologist (I haven't been there since July and I am still twitching) just for the physical exam. If everything still looks fine (reflexes, etc.) then I will try my best to frequent the BFS forum and only visit here to offer support!

I have not made the appointment yet. I'm afraid the Dr. willl think I 'm paranoid.

I hope everyone is doing well. My prayers are still with you all.

Thanks for reading.

Darla

Thanks for the little update Darla. It's good to hear there is no detectable changes.
