Hi all, so a couple of months ago i was experiencing a dull burning like ache above my knee, just below my pocket, that seemed to come when standing or sitting. I thought nothing of it and just forgot about it.

Then around a week ago, i started having twitching in both calves and occasionally twitching in one eyelid and stomach, back, shoulders etc. Also after walking for litteraly a minute or two yesterday, my legs both went crazy and felt shaky. Waking up this morning i can also feel very strong twitching in both thighs, a very strong flutter.

Now i know from the vast research ive done that its highly unlikely given my age and just the fact its so rare, but at the same time, i cant help but wonder.

Ive started taking vitamin b12 and magnesium supplements and while i hope they work, if they dont ill be mighty concerned. How long would you expect to see them work if they are going too. I also remember having twitches in my leg about 12 years ago that i managed to overcome by taking zinc supplements.

Sorry for long message but figure this is a great place to ask questions

So in a nutshell, my main questions are

Could the burning ache i experienced for a month or two be related to the twitching?

As ive no percieved weakness, would after a week or so of twitching i would expect to have some other symptoms?

Is it normal that my legs went crazy yesterday after only a minute or two of walking?

From what youve read, id love to hear any and all opinions

Thanks for reading and replying it means alot

Hello-

Please make sure to read here: Read Before Posting. It explains why twitching without clinical weakness can mean many things, or nothing at all. It also recommends a doctor's visit first if you have health questions.
To answer your questions:
Maybe? Depends on the issue.
If you mean if it were ALS, yes.
Sure. Depends on the issue.

Please visit with a doctor if you have questions about your health.

Take care

Hi, thanks for your reply, i did read the sticky before hand and it certainly made me feel better, i am booking an appointment too

So ive woke up this morning and ive got twitching only in the one leg which i suppose is making me feel better too as i doubt it would temporarily leave one leg, even though im thinking it will return at some point

Ive always been quite a worrier when it comes to health issues, and thanks for answering my questions,

Its reassuring to see your replies, just to make it crystal clear

Having twitching for over a week and no weakness would point heavily to no als, even though my legs occasionally feel wobbly upon walking?

Honestly appreciate responses

Thanks

There is zero evidence of ALS. The more weeks of twitching without weakness would only give us more zeroes.

Hi so ive got an update to my symptoms. So friday was a good day for my twitches as they were only in my left leg all day, i done a lot of walking and afterwards they still were only in the one leg.

Yesterday at work i was on my feet all day and also found out my feet are at unusual angles driving on the pedals, both legs were crazy bad for twitches during and after work, did a lot of driving to. I think the burning pain i experienced a few months ago may be due to the wierd angle of my feet on the pedals.

Woke up this morning and as of now ive got absolutely no twitches in either leg. Now when i get up and drive to work im kind of expecting them to return to some degree, ive also been taking vitamin b12 and zinc.

If i could ask for an opinion please

If it was ALS, in your opinion could the twitching have only focused in the one leg the other day and upon waking up this morning have almost completely disappeared?

Are twitches known to come and go, either entirely or partially?

Could the bad driving angle of my feet potentially be the cause of my twitches?

If it was ALS, could vitamins still help the twitches?

I really appreciate your opinions

The answers are the same. Twitching without functional problems is not ALS, whether it comes, goes, moves, or responds to supplements.

Yes, keeping your feet in an awkward position can cause pain, stiffness, and/or twitches, especially if you put pressure on them against a hard surface like pedals or the floor of the car.

There is still no reason to think of ALS. Keep your appointment and discuss your fears with your doctor so you can put them to rest and focus on the ergonomics of driving, etc., which are very much under your control.

Many thanks for your replies of reassurance, they genuinely help me feel better, ive read the sticky and understand this isnt a medical forum but find the opinions of people who know alot about the disease to be very valid

I would just like to report on my symptoms as of today, so since my last message,

my eyelid hasnt twitched for 2 days now

Calf muscle twitches are coming and going but are significantly reduced in quantity, affecting left leg more than right

They appear much worse when sitting or lying down, but cannot usually be felt when standing

1/ Been taking vitamins and magnesium for a few days, should i be concerned that im still occasionally getting them despite the amount of vitamins ive been taking for days?

2/ Still no weakness or atrophy, actually done a run yesterday and legs were fine throughout, although did experience a fair bit of twitching straight afterwards

3/ Would the general consensus be that after nearly 3 weeks now of leg twitching and from the above synopsis, with no weakness, that were als the culprit there would be additional stmptoms or could they be coming further down the line?

4/ From the beginning of the twitching 3 weeks ago when it was constant and occasionally in my arms, chest, thighs and eye, to within the last week where i had 1 day with practically nothing to today when ive had a few in my legs but only when sitting, lying down,

5/ im right in thinking you would not go from constant, to practically none at all, to occasional, it would be progressive?

Again i really appreciate your input and i know ive been told previously, but i am the type of person who seeks comfort in being reassured, especially regarding my above symptoms over the last few days

Many, many thanks

Heya-

Repeated reassurance seeking and not being able to truly believe the people who have provided you answers already means you've got yourself a ferocious case of health anxiety. The Read Before Posting answers your questions about twitching absent any weakness. It also describes what progressive means, and what you describe is not that. If you have further questions about your non-ALS symptoms, it might be a good idea to return to your doctor to discuss with them.

Hoping you are able to be reassured now that you've been provided with reassurance and info. You're good to go.

Hi all, so ive got an appointment with a gp next week, i know they will most probs then refer me to a neurologist

I will definitely post an outcome though as its only fair to help others with the worries, sadly something thats all too common due to looking symptoms up on the internet

If i could ask for some opinions please, i know yous have greatly replied in the past but as its now a week on.

1/ So its now 1 month since i noticed the twitches and i still have no other symptoms and am able to walk for very long distances, im guessing by now i would have some weakness and or atrophy?

2/ Ive had a couple of days where ive hardly noticed any twitches at all, and others, like this morning where ive woke up with them pretty bad in my legs, thighs, buttocks and arms! Im sure that if it was als i wouldn't have days with hardly any and days with loads, they would remain and be persistent?

3/ I was feeling ill the other night and had sweating, chills up my spine, very bad twitches and my head was keep going numb and tingly, is this something that is noted as a possible als symptom?

Thanks very much, i know this isnt a diagnosis website, but the input from the wonderful people here really makes a difference

Thanks

1and 2. Twitches without weakness are meaningless
3 no

Your gp may ( and should ) refuse a referral. If you get one neurology may refuse it as well. Think hard before asking for scarce resources if their exam is benign
