Hello

I am very stressed about my symptoms and would like to hear someone else’s opinion!
I am a 27 year old female. My symptoms started around two months ago. I had persistent twitching beneath my left eye for about a month. After a month the twitch beneath my eye disappeared, but I started to get twitched all around the rest of my body. It is mainly in my right leg, and it’s in my thigh, calf and foot arch. I also have som twitching in my left calf at times, some in my stomach and upper back. These twitches have been there for around a month now. They are mostly present when I sit down and relax my legs.

I have also started to have some weird pain in my right calf. It feels thight or strained. This feeling is in the back of my calf, the side of my calf and the front of my calf. It is not very painful but noticeable. I also have some small cramp like feeling in my right calf. It feels like my right leg also gets tired more easily than before. My right calf is also one cm smaller than my left calf.

I have also had some pain underneath my foot, like I’m walking incorrectly.

I can stand on my heels and on my toes, and my balance is still good.

I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow.

I’m very scared this might be ALS and would be very grateful if someone could share their thoughts.

I see no reason to worry about ALS. Several of the issues you mention are common in poor sleep and dehydration so those are two areas to think about.

A podiatrist or physio can evaluate your walking gait and recommend whether that is something that needs work.

Most people have legs that are different sizes.

Thank you for your reply! I sleep a lot, and I’m very tired every day. I also try to drink a lot of water so I don’t think it’s that. I’m very nervous that the pain in my shins are from walking incorrectly because of weakness in my leg or atrophy, is this common for ALS? I also tripped on the stair case today, but i might have just stepped wrong. I know deep down that all of this can be others things than ALS, but I can’t shake the “what if” of it all. I have also read other young women who started with a stiff leg and twitches, which of course does not help.

Shin pain is most often from overdoing it , too much stop/start, or shoes that have given out.

If your legs were atrophied, you would know and your walking would be affected very differently.

You're not describing ALS. I'm sure your appointment today will be reassuring. Meanwhile, there is no reason to read up on it so I would block those sites if you need to.
