Hello. I'm a 44 year old male. I have been looking through a bunch of the threads to hopefully answer my question, but unfortunately there really isn't one similar. Also, I want to thank you for taking the time to answer my questions in advance. I have read the sticky.

1. 1 year twitching. Started in the beginning of the covid pandemic. It started in my fingers but has been all over my body. Not the tongue.
2. My left eye when waking up in the morning tends to stick and not open properly. This tends to happen from time to time throughout the day.
3. I have "perceived" atrophy under my eye area. And my eye tends to have a slope to it.
4. I do have small tiny twitches under my eyelid.

I have not been able to get an MRI, yet. It's hard even to get an apt with my primary doctor, unless it's telemed.

I can jump on one leg. Stand on my heels and toes, as well as walk on them. I have no problems with hands or fingers. But, my eye is really freaking me out. I feel I have dug myself down a deep rabbit hole! I'm admitting myself in a couple of weeks, if my mind won't stop running crazy! I'm going to attach a picture. And thank you so much for replying back. I'm not looking for advice, only for an opinion of experience individuals.

Not looking for a diagnosis *

Hi
twitching as you know is meaningless. The eye thing doesn’t sound familiar. From your description I would be trying to see an eye doctor as a start As well as the pcp.
I am not sure what you mean by sticking. People with dry eye syndrome often have great difficulty opening their eyes in the morning and it can be one sided. They say their eyelid is stuck often.

the loss of eye muscle control with ALS is fortunately not that common and I have never seen it except late in disease

Hi. Me again. I would like to ask a couple of more questions, if I may.
1. Is face atrophy a sign of Onset?
2. In a year with twitching from head to toe, without weakness, a good way to possibly rule out ALS?
I have read the stickies. It does state without weakness it means nothing. But for how long?

Also, to clarify the eye "sticking". When wake up, my bottom lid sorta takes a second to pull from the top lid. Not like I have to use my fingers, but I do have to stretch my eye a bit. This has been for the last 2 days... full disclosure, I have only had 5 hours of sleep in the last 2 days.

I do have to admit, I have health anxiety (really bad!!!!). My plan is to seek therapy once I'm settled back home from being on the road. I do worry A LOT. I do apologize for the millionth time you have probably been asked the question. I can't sleep, think, eat, talk to my wife, in my phone non stop. (I'm probably answering the questions already). My plan is to not come back after this thread is finished. But I will continue my support for a long time to come! I kind of made a "worry jar"... the minute I begin to have intrusive thoughts a dollar goes in.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you. I do indeed need help. I am sorry to bring my worries to y'all. I just can't stop thinking about the what if. And that's why I asked the questions to put my mind to rest. I'm trying to learn as much, as to drive myself away from thinking I'm physically ill. Health anxiety really screwed me during the lock down..

The more you read about ALS, the worse your obsession about having the disease gets. What you are doing is the very thing that fuels health anxiety. Text book illness obsession with the constant reading and searching about ALS.

You don't have it; be grateful. It's best and most considerate to move on from the forum.

Take good care

1) No.
2) Yes.
3) There is no appreciable period, no significant length of time, that we would expect twitching to be the only manifestation of ALS -- definitely, not anything resembling a year.

Health anxiety can and should be treated. There's nothing else that you've mentioned that needs to be, on the evidence you've presented. A good gel eye drop like Genteal or Refresh Optive Advanced before bed and when you get up can help.

Ok. I'm so very sorry to bother you. This is my issue. My left eye does not open as fast as my right. As this happens, once my lid opens, it twitches back and forth wth tiny little spasms. I'm totally freaked! I never wanted to post here. I tried my dangdest to not come back. I just don't know what else to do. I can't see my pcp or an eye specialist at this time. I'm just praying this is nothing bad.

Hi there-

The folk here are not in a real position to help you with this. To go from "My eye is twitching" to "I think I have ALS" is a giant leap. And the only person who can help allay your fears needs to be able to give you an exam and explain what they are observing- a doctor. The function of this forum does not extend to helping people self diagnose with ALS or provide the kind of support you need.

The people here can give you some advice and attempt to reassure you with facts and remind you to read the "Read Before" post, but not much more than that. You must see a medical professional in order to receive the help that you need and get an exam that may help reassure you.

Please make an appointment, no matter how far into the future it may be, with your family doctor, as this is where you will find the information and care that you need. Please take care of yourself and I hope you are able to leave ALS and this forum behind.

I do understand. I am trying to get an apt asap. My thing with the twitch is not what scares me, but the fact the lid won't open as fast as the other. And I guess that's my worries. I honestly was ready to never look back, until this started going on. First i only noticed it in the am, but now it's going on throughout the day.

Whatever it is I am as sure as I can be this isn’t ALS. It just doesn’t start that way. Eye movement is usually the very last thing to go. All my family members were otherwise completely paralyzed but could blink no problem by the end.

we are not going to say anything else. We are sorry you are scared but you need to find support elsewhere while you wait for an appointment

I'm so sorry. I do very much appreciate your experience backed reply. I just hope I can find out what the heck it is. I called a crises help line that suggested I stop taking a med I started a week back. And I need to stop trying to connect anxious dots at the same time.

Hi. Last questions. I would also kindly ask if someone could please close this thread after an answer. I don't want to come back.

1. I woke up in the middle of the night and went to swallow, but my mind wouldn't let me (best way to describe it). I have to force myself to swallow saliva. Right as I wake up this happens. Is this a bulbar symptom?
2. I have mentioned body wide twitching, for going on 1 year now. Would i have had bulbar symptoms in the beginning of the year? Even with fasiculations being first?

I do apologize for going on, which is why I asked to have this closed. I know you guys are not Dr's.. but you're the closest ones with experience. Google is the devil. I don't want to ask it anything ever again.
