Hello all!

One week ago I had a new emg done because of observed fascikulations in my tongue by doctor (some I feel some I do not feel...) I also have continuous twitching in both legs and also random all over my body... The twitching has been going on for 14 months now.... My right leg is fatigued and stiff, worsening day by day.

The neuro mentioned tatt an emg of tongue could be difficult to perform du to the natural tonguemovement. She stuck the needle in the side of the tongue and said she could not see anything wrong. I have no problems with swallowing, but my tongue feels tired sore and dry most of the time. I first noticed tongue twithing in april this year...

The rest of the emg was normal too, but she only stuck the needle in one leg muscle (ant tibialis) and the thigh muscles. She also tested both arms and hands...

I am mostly scared about bulbar onset since fascikulations appears on my tongue as well as everywhere Else....
Do You think the emg results on my tongue can be trusted although it is supposed to be a bit difficult to perform as stated by the neuro...?
What are your experiences regarding this issue?

Thank You in advance! I have been given Great advices and informative answers on this forum, sorry if I keep bugging You with my issues....!

Have a Nice day:)

Tina

Listen to your doctor. If you are not satisfied, request another tongue EMG again and again.

The "great advice" you've received from this forum ( and your doctors) is : you don't have ALS

Maybe one day, you will come to believe this. I hope so.

I hope at some point you will come realize that the drs. know what they are doing and that you have been cleared. You should be rejoicing and happy. I hope you realize it sooner rather than later. I wish you peace.

Tina, I too have tongue fasciculations and issues with speech sometimes, my neurologist last year did a tongue emg and body emgs no als then, had another opinion from a dr that his sub speciality is neuromuscular desease this year, he too did an emg right in my tongue, again no als, my dr told me last year they were 95% sure this year they are 99% sure. That is the best anyone can get as nothing is ever 100%. But an emg of the tongue would show abnormalities if there was any and a good nuero can tell the difference, there are certain thing they look for. Nobody knows what the future holds, I mean I could go outside and get hit by a car. Anyway if your dr says no als, you have to trust him. If not get a second or third opinion. Anxiety makes stuff 100 times worse. I'm guilty of that totally and working hard with my dr about that.

Thank You so much for answering me! I really really appreciate it! The main reason I kind of doubt the tongue emg is because my neuro said that those could be a bit difficult to read because the tongue is difficult to hold still. Therefore one might miss spontaneous activity.
She showed me the screen and then said: see What I mean?
But she also said it all looked ok to her.. Would reinnervation signs also show in the tongue?

Of course I want to believe my doctors... But my progressing symptoms such as heavy stiff legs and feet, makes it difficult to walk... Cant do ANY exercising anymore! Both arms constant heavy and fatigued with shaking and tremors... Something must be wrong with my muscles...
But nothing showed in emg? Then What kind of weakness could this be? Soooooo tired and depressed!
ANY meaning about this progression, What to do next?

Thankyou in advance, once again!

Has your dr noted clinical weakness? Precieved weakness is a possibility, also like I said anxiety can cause a tons of physical symptoms. Have you ever had your thyroid tested? Hypothyroidism can cause fatigue. Low vitamin b12 or d. There is many things it can be. Also when looking at an emg, there are certain things they look for. They can tell the difference between normal tongue movement and something bad. The only advise I can give you is to see your primary dr for some blood work to see if you are low in anything , check your thyroid and such, and maybe get a second opinion from a neuromuscular specialist. I wish you good luck and hope you can get some answers.

I have a question for everyone..I am a 33 year old female, and I am 9 months pregnant. About 5 years ago,I had a tongue twich that you could see and feel, and it lasted for over a month,I also have the ridges/scalloped tongue. I have widespread twitches in different parts o my body almost every day. The tongue twitch comes and goes a couple times a year usually and last for several days. This time it has came back,it has been two weeks and the scalloped tongue looks even worse. I dont have any swallowing issues but feel that I do need to clear my throat ALOT during the day. I always seem to worry myself to death, and then it goes away, when returns I am deathly afraid its ALS because I find nothing else with my symptoms! HELP! Can someone please tell me what may be going on,or has anyone had these symptoms? Thanks!

I am also having twitches in my hands and around my lips this time

Everyone twitches and after 5 years if it was als you would be nearly completely disabled. Have you mentioned this to your doctor ?

I have not. It has just recently started up again, but when I look up my symptoms especially the twitching tongue(which can be seen) and the scalloped edges I only see ALS I am so scared! Thank you for the reply!

Als does not start and stop. Once it starts it keeps going and destroying, so after 5 years you would be very seriously ill. Go to your doctor and explain what is going on. Your biggest worry should be delivering a healthy baby and enjoying every minute.
