Hi guys,

awaiting EMG, just wanted to get your thoughts on the attached pic..

This is under flexion, can’t see without it - does this look like Thenar Atrophy? Or are there ligaments you can potentially see under the muscle?
Thanks for your help.

Howdy. Please read this if you have not already done so: Important - READ BEFORE POSTING! Answers to common concerns about possible symptoms!

We really can’t tell atrophy from the photos. That’s something for your doctor to determine. A certain degree of dents, dimples and asymmetry are common and can change over time. Even atrophy can have many causes with ALS being at the bottom of a long list.

Keep in mind that what is important when it comes to diagnosing ALS is the big picture: clinical weakness as determined by a physician, characteristic EMG changes in multiple muscle areas, upper motor neuron signs, evidence of disease progression, and ruling out ALS mimics.

Thanks KarennWendyn, much appreciated!
