Hello - first off, thank you so much for taking the time to read my post. I sincerely appreciate it. My question is related to thenar atrophy without clinical weakness detected. I started seeing wasting in my thumb muscle in November 2020. It has not spread from what I can tell and my hand doctor has not detected any weakness. I also do not have any loss of function, but the atrophy is noticeable. I’ve also started to notice atrophy in my left thenar muscle, but once again no loss of function or weakness.

I have an EMG next week, but I’m having a hard time not freaking out that it could be ALS. Is it possible to develop hand atrophy without weakness? Or if the atrophy has been present for a year, would you expect it to spread to other areas in that limb? Any experience or feedback is appreciated. Thank you
