Every Sunday this lady would put a $10 dollar Scratch Off lottery
ticket in the collection basket. This went on for about 8 Sundays.
One Sunday as the collection basket was being passed around
from the pulpit the minister watched real closely. He saw the
lady who was the ticket giver… Mrs. Johnson.
At the end of the service he would stand at the door and say
good bye to each member as they were leaving, as Mrs. Johnson
was leaving he asked if he could speak with her.
The minister, his young assistant and Mrs. Johnson stepped over
to the side after all had left the minister said to Mrs Johnson…
“I’ve noticed each week you put a Scratch Off lottery ticket in the
collection basket. As you may know our church does not condone
gambling… it’s temptation and it does not help the church or our
financial needs.”
Mrs. Johnson said…
“I’m sorry minister. I won’t do that anymore.”
The young assistant butted in with…
“Yea, last Sunday he got ill with it… they were all losers.”
