Just something to read
Thanksgiving… yep, as fast as this year has gone by us it will
be upon us sooner than we (I) think. We just passed Labor Day.
Before COVID 19 for Thanksgiving we’d have 18 to 25 people
here… her family, all of mine are down in Florida. We’d call in
an order to Costco to make up big trays of green bean casserole,
mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese and I’d order
a 24 pound Butter Ball turkey. (Before Ann and I would cook
all this but… my favorite saying, with this, “Nothing stays the same
anymore” just can’t do it.
OK, we put the word out to her family, because of me, nobody
who hasn’t been vaccinated or won’t get it is not invited. Even with
that, Ann wanting to gather with her family... I cringed at the whole
deal.
Golly, what we found out is almost half of her family are followers of the
former Commander in COVID 19 Chaos in Chief and avid FoxNews watchers.
This started a flurry of text messages. Ann is hurt, I knew it all along. I’d like
to say, “To hell with all of it and make reservations at some nice restaurant.
But, I’m glad to be a bystander on this one, it’s her family not mine. Probably
shouldn’t say that… but it fits.
Each year I'd set up a full blown bar (had one down in Florida) over the
following weekend, my friends and our neighbors would stop by for a
few... or more. Now I have just a few if that. It ain't the same being sober
when everybody else is working on a buzz. Now with Delta that might
not be a good idea. Many of them are "R' and "FN" watchers too.
Booze and politics often doesn't work out well.
I’d bet we’re not the only ones facing this Thanksgiving dilemma.
