You are invited to take part in a research study that evaluates several methods for assessing the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), including a new technique called electrical impedance myography (EIM). By finding the best method(s) of evaluating disease progression, new treatments for the disease may be more easily identified.

You are being asked to take part in this study because you have amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Research studies include only people who choose to take part. Please read this consent form carefully and ask the investigators or study staff to explain any words or information that you do not clearly understand. We encourage you to talk with your family and friends before you decide to take part in this research study.

Participation in this study will require a total of 8 study visits, spaced at 1-2 monthly intervals, over the course of one year. We plan to recruit a total of 120 ALS patients at several different institutions around the country. Approximately 15-20 subjects will be recruited at each study site.

This was part of consent form emailed from Emory today.
