Hello,

Searching old posts on the forum I noticed many of were diagnosed with ALS had just twitches and strange feelings (no weakness) in their symptoms. Just it...

Other thing I noticed is that many of them had less than 40 years old...do you think more young people are being affected?

Still worried...

All the best for you!

Just to reassure you - if you have no other symptoms besides twitches, you are going to live quite a while.

Really, calm down, and I am not trying to be disrespectful, but there are a lot of people here that have much worse symptoms - people that are diagnosed and not diagnosed'ed.

Twitches are benign until proven otherwise. I know it is not easy, but you will not find answers here. If you are healthy besides twitching, go celebrate something great in your life.

Really, I know it is hard when you have twitching, but no other symptoms means NO ALS. You have to take some comfort in that. Please try!

What would be relevant other symptoms?

I am afraid of my twitches because they are so strange...mainly in legs, not constants, not everytime...sometimes visible, sometimes not...

Yes, it is hard, but I can assure you I am trying to put the worries out of my mind!

Thank you for your patience!

GGKK,

First I would comment that symptoms to "worry about" are different than symptoms pointing to ALS. Many neurological conditions have overlapping symptoms, and there are many diseases that mimic ALS.

That being said symptoms I would worry about would be:

significant pain
increasing weakness (to the point it disrupts function)
persistent sensory symptoms (buzzing, electric, vision, disorientation, nausea etc.)
spasticity
loss of coordination
respitory problems
etc...

Again, these are symtpoms I would worry about, and would take to my Dr. These are not symptoms that mean a person has ALS (Neuropathic pain and sensory problems like tingling actually point away from ALS). A diagnosis of ALS is dependent on making clinical findings of both UMN and LMN symptoms, and can only be made by a trained specialist.

I would also point out that many symptoms: twitching, difficulty breathing, percieved weakness, etc can be also induced or intensified by stress and anxiety. In reading your posts, it seems that your doctor feels your twitches are benign. I would consider this a blessing, and find something relaxing and distracting to occupy your time.

Take care,

Robert

Hello Robert,

Thank you for your response.

My worries are the weird twitches and my vague pains. Yep, my doctor said my twithes are benign...but it was more than 3 years ago!

Trying to relax...

Best wishes,

Hello,

I have been experiecing eyelid (left eye) twitches...is it normal?

Still worried...

Best wishes!

My left eye has been twitching for around 6 months now and do not think I have Als, it is very annoying but I have learned to live with it as none of my doctors seem concerned with it. Some days it is worse than others. Some days it twitches all day long other days hardly at all. Still searching for an answer, margaret

bryan12,

I think the symptoms listed by Robert were not specific about ALS.

"These are not symptoms that mean a person has ALS (Neuropathic pain and sensory problems like tingling actually point away from ALS)"

I have lots and lots of twitching and some muscle cramps, I had a clean emg about 4 years ago. Right now I am seeing a rheumatologist as according to my regular doc I do not need a nuerologist at this time. Other symptoms include numbness and tingling in my feet and kind of like a squeezing sensation on the left side of my face. I also have diabetes so all of this could be some sort of nueropathy

eye lid twitching is the most common twitch. I think everyone has had an eye twitch.

With that being said, since that start of this for me, my one eye twitched for like 2 weeks and then stopped. So hang in there!

Eyelid twitching is extremely common, and usually a product of stress. I had eyelid twitching throughout grad school while under deadline. This was years and years before I ever experienced any of my present symptoms. Several friends had it too.

GGKK was right. This list I gave were troublesome symtpoms that you might want to talk to a Dr. about. It was in no way shape or form meant to be a list of ALS symptoms.

Take care,

Robert
