The more I read, the more amazed I am how incredibly well-informed so many of you are, and how many more questions I have.

I just read on the link about EMGs that if an EMG is normal on one side, it should be done on the other side. Do you all concur with this? Did your neuros do that?
My husband just had his second single-fiber EMG and nerve conduction study.

I thought things looked optimistic for once as
a) the EMG was clean (but done only on one side)
b) the nerve study was normal

Now I read that nerve studies are typically normal in ALS and the EMG should be done, if negative on one side, on both.

Wright, Al, Rose - this seems up your alleys

Thanks for reading,
Erica

The local neurologist at Henry Ford Hospital Detroit that I saw before being referred to an ALS neurologist did both sides with trouble on both sides.

For a second opinion, I went to the Cleveland Clinic and they did only the right side where I had a drop foot. They found confirmation of earlier findings and did no more.

My symptons are more evident on the right side, but I think we would find trouble as twitches or fascilations or weakness on both sides if the patient had ALS.
