Good morning, my name is Milan, a 41-year-old male living in Florida. Before sharing my symptoms, I want to express my gratitude for your time and acknowledge the challenges faced by those who have been diagnosed. I deeply appreciate your understanding and empathy.

My symptoms began in early April with weakness in my right hand, especially when holding a phone or typing, which soon spread to my left hand. The weakness seems concentrated around the wrist, palm, and index finger. My neurologist conducted a full exam and NCS, which showed bilateral carpal tunnel, more severe in my dominant left hand. While my fine motor skills haven’t drastically changed, they feel somewhat altered, and my arm fatigues quicker.

Unfortunately, after consulting “Dr. Google,” I became anxious about more serious conditions like MS or ALS. Shortly after, I noticed widespread twitching, especially in my calves, and fatigue in both legs, making walking more challenging. A subsequent NCS on my legs was normal, and my neurologist reassured me that my strength in both hands and legs remains good, with no signs of anything serious.

Currently, my twitching is still present but less intense, and the weakness in my hands hasn’t worsened. However, I’ve been experiencing brain fog and occasional mispronunciation of words, which adds to my concerns.

I’ve struggled with health anxiety in the past, and while I recognize this might contribute, my current symptoms feel genuinely distressing.

Thank you again for your time and any feedback you can offer.

Regards,
Milan

I would use this wakeup call to get more/better help with the health anxiety, because what you are describing is a cascade that is nothing like ALS, not to mention two clean EMGs in areas of concern.

I would also begin CT exercises that are widely available on line or a hand therapist could get you started with a regimen, meter your keyboard/phone/device use, check your workspace for ergonomics, etc. And of course, good sleep supports or degrades your physical and mental state every day.

These are all more productive approaches than worrying about a disease you don't have.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. I really appreciate your reassurance and practical advice. I’m trying my best to manage my health anxiety, but sometimes it’s tough to think clearly when anxiety and depression take over. Your words are a great reminder to focus on what’s really happening, and I’m grateful for your perspective. Thank you for helping me take a step back and see things more rationally
