I've been experiencing a series of neurological symptoms that began in August 2024, which eventually led me to question whether ALS could be a possibility. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or feedback.
August 2024
I experienced sudden, acute weakness in my right arm, which resolved after about six weeks. About two weeks into that episode, I developed persistent muscle twitching in my calves that gradually spread throughout my body. I also noticed mild cramping and tightness in my calves, feet, and arms. Around June 2024, I had begun to feel more emotionally sensitive—becoming teary-eyed at movies, which was unusual for me.
November 2024
I saw a neurologist and passed the clinical exam. An MRI of my cervical spine revealed severe spinal stenosis from C5 to C7, and I was diagnosed with Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy. Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) surgery was recommended.
December 2024
I developed a noticeable tremor in my hands and arms, which persists today.
January 2025
I began having difficulty using my thumb—specifically, opening bag clips and squeezing condiment bottles became challenging.
February 2025
I underwent ACDF surgery performed by an orthopedic surgeon to relieve spinal cord pressure. During post-op physical therapy, the therapist observed that my right hand and thumb were significantly weaker compared to my left hand.
March 2025
I started experiencing an internal tremor in both arms, which at times can be felt throughout my entire body.
April 2025
My symptoms have not improved, and I’ve started losing weight without trying. My weight had been stable at around 240 lbs for years, but since surgery, I've dropped to 223 lbs.
Given the lack of improvement, I sought a second opinion from another neurologist who ordered a nerve conduction study (NCV/EMG). The results came back abnormal. I’ve attached the full report and interpretation. All of this has left me feeling extremely anxious and unsettled. Any thoughts or feedback is very much appreciated.
