My sister has a runny nose and nasal congestion (more on one side) for a few mos now.
We have been to her primary doc, who sent us to ENT. ENT saying this is a part of her neuromuscular disorder, talk to neuro. He gave Nasonex spray, which is not helping.
When I call our neuro, he is telling to schedule an appt with ENT.
My sister was just started on CPAP, but having trouble using her nasal mask due to constant nasal congestion.
Any suggestions?
Thank you,Briana

Thank you for your reply...
She is taking Zyrtec, but it makes her drowsy and doesnt help that much. She also tried Nasonex (nasal Spray) and had a lot of nosebleeding, so her doctor said to stop.

Briana,

My mother had the same problem, she uses the nasal strips and has good luck with them.

Brianna,
The only antihistamine that I have used that does not cause drowsiness is Aerius.

My dad has been troubled with the same thing, runny nose that doesnt seem to stop some days. Its a real real annoyance for him because he has extremely limited use of his arms and hands and must depend on others to "catch the drips" or to assit him to clear his nose. It doesnt seem to bother him when he is laying down but sitting up , some days it seems to run constantly. He too has tried nasonex and with no improvement. A consult has put in for an ENT specialist but that doesnt seem to be happening real fast. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dana, what nasal strips did you mom use? Dad hasnt tried this yet , might be worth a try.
Thanks again everyone. I havent posted in awhile, but I have been following the posts when I can.

I think she uses the breathe right strips, I will check with her and let you know for sure.

Thanks, its become less of an issue right now as we are in hospital with him, fighting an pnemonia. Hopefully the antiobiotics will kick in soon and he feels better. Still interested in the nasal strips though, thank for checking Dana

I just talked to my Dad, my mom does use the breathe right strips. Susan I hope your Dad is soon feeling better and out of the hospital.

I use Claritin Xtra strength non drowsy for Allergy and Sinus for stuffy nose. Usually 1 dose lasts a few days.

My husband takes 10 mg Loratadin every day, but it is no longer keeping the nose clear.

My mom uses a nebulizer and says that helps her feel less congested.

Briana, I seem to have nasal congestion and runny nose related to taking Baclofen. I didn't take baclofen before bedtime last night and the problem seemed to go away. I'll just have to monitor it. Is your sister on baclofen?
