Shane was admitted for tests Dec 08 and had a normal respiratory function test but evidence of chest wall weakness. Started Rilutek Jan 09. May 09 respiratory down to 41%. July 09 respiratory function test showed 31%. For the last two months at least he has been almost 24 hours a day on bipap. We did not notice any side effects from taking the drug but it seemed to do little to slow the runaway train that is als. We decided to stop taking it about six weeks ago as it seemed a futile exercise.

Hi Jeff,

Interesting info on Alpha Lipoic and Acetyle Carnatine. My husband has been taking them for years. He stopped about two months ago (when he got the diagnosis) and went on the clinics prescribed plan of vitamins (E, B and Fish Oil). We will definitely add them back!

He decided to start taking Rilutek again to see if there is any benefit. Since we have a huge supply, he decided it couldn't hurt to do some "experimenting/research" on his own.
