Hello. My names Christian I'm a 20 year old white male. About a week ago I had a bad twitch in my right index finger. 3 days ago I started noticing my right arm was weaker than my left, I then stumbled upon lou gherigs disease on the Internet. Since then I have been freaking out because I think I have it. I have no history of it in my family and I know the odds are slim but today I went to the gym and i was able to tell my left arm felt stronger than my right. My right bicep got tired much quicker. Which is strange because my right arm has always been stronger. I also have a twitch in my right bicep now as well and my fingers on my right hand shake and tremor when in doing precise movements with them. I can still walk and talk fine for now but I fear the symptoms will move quickly and I am really anxious. Could this be als? Thank you

Nope.

Twitches mean absolutely nothing. Everyone twitches.

Okay guys really sacred now. The weakness in my grip in my right hand has gotten worse and I now have a constant twitch in between my right thumb and index finger. Most of my twitches occur in my right arm which is scary considering that's also the arm feel weakness in. Also loss of coordination as well and my right thumb feels much weaker. I know anxiety can cause twitching but I have never had it so concentrated in one arm before.

Twitching can start anywhere or everywhere. I think you should go to your general doctor and get a check up. Make sure you tell him how anxious you are.

Christian-

Can you explain why you are asking strangers on the internet if you have ALS, when you've been to a doctor who has said no? How on Earth do you think someone here can tell you you have ALS?

If you are concerned about your health, go see a doctor again, tell them your symptoms- including your health anxiety, and work with them to figure out what is wrong. You will get way more help from a caring practitioner who can actually examine you and listen to your concerns. This forum will not be helpful to you- not for your anxiety, nor for any treatment you may need- the people here are struggling with some very serious health issues, either their own, or that of their loved ones.

Take care of yourself, and best wishes.

Extremely worried

Hi I'm a 20 year old white male. And I'm convinced I have als. It all started 1.5 weeks ago, I had looked up Lou Gehrig's disease after I felt a weakness in my grip however it was in my left hand the day after I looked up the disease and all of its symptoms I started developing symptoms. for example I twitch all up and down the right side of my body mainly in the right hand, right calf and right foot however the Twitches in my calf and foot are so small that I can feel them but can't see them which is what scares me because I know ALS related twitches are extremely small and fine. I do twitch and other parts of my body however the ones in my right calf and right what are constant and will go off and on all day. I also feel a weakness on the entire right side of my body I already went to my doctor and he says he doesn't notice anything I can't tell if it to perceive weakness or if it is a real weakness I also feel like I am losing dexterity in the fingers on my right hand. I have an appointment next Wednesday and an EMG but I'm so terrified right now.

Re: Extremely worried

This board is designed to provide information and support for people who have been diagnosed. There is nothing members can do about your anxiety- you will have to wait till your emg to hear from the specialist about what they find. After you have received your test, let us know how it goes.

best wishes

Re: Extremely worried

I know i have a severe health anxiety which I'm seeing a psychiatrist for but I also fear this. However, I did go to a friend's grad party the other night and had a few beers and I hardly noticed the symptoms at all. In any case, I just was looking for some peace of mind from people who have had to deal with this terrible disease first hand. Thank you

Re: Extremely worried

Here is some peace of mind lad - you don't have ALS symptoms at all no matter what you have convinced yourself.

Keep working with your doctors so they can identify and treat whatever is going on.

Pending neuro apt, looking for some piece of mind

Hey all, so I have my neuro apt on Wednesday, but I just had a few questions. Firstly, I noticed a difference in shape of my right and left quads. The right, which is the onemail I feel weakness in seems to be smaller when I flex it. My doc says there is no clinical weakness and I can still do a 40 yard dash on about 4.6 seconds but it still feels strange to me. Is it normal for bodies to be different on either side? Also I feel a weakness in my right arm and leg. Is it possible for ALS to start in 2 limbs at the same time. Also I have fasciculations mainly in my legs but more in my right thigh, calf, and arch of my foot. Also in my right thumb and bicep occasionally. I am extremely anxious and these symptoms appeared after I looked them up so my doc thinks it's a conversion disorder. Also the neurologist apt isn't because he thinks I need, its just for my piece of mind, I have always had severe health anxiety (thought I had prostate cancer when I was 9) I am 20 now and everyone keeps telling me it's anxiety and it's in my head. I can still bench press 200 pounds and squat 300 pounds but something feels so off to me. Could this really be all in my head? Appreciate any replys.

Yes, I believe it can be and is in your head. If seeing a neuro gives you peace of mind, go for it. However, if you have a history of health anxiety I would also recommend seeing a psychiatrist and a counselor. They will help you deal with the next health issue that you start worrying about.

Thanks Kim! I am seeing a psychiatrist right now for it and I'm also on an anti anxiety med. It just scares me when I think about the possibility of this. Thanks for your input though!
