Hi All,

I was just wondering whether these symptoms sound like ALS/MDN

I'm 26 years old when i was 21 I was lifting boxes i know the saying lift with your legs not with your back but i got some electric shock feelings in my back so i stopped. I never had any problems with my back after that.

I suffer from bad acid reflux in which i take Omeprazole for daily and I had an endoscope check 2 years ago which came back and just indicated GERD. I was still complaining about swollen throat when i swallow it's very loud and crackles in both ears and sometimes when i drink it feels like it gets stuck but then goes down which has been the case for the last years or two, so i continued to query the doctors and one suspected i had a lump on my thyroid so i was sent for an ultrasound which came back negative and the doctor who did the ultrasound just suggested i had a slightly enlarged goitre or thyroid. I persisted with this as it still felt a bit discomforting and the doctor agreed to take another blood test and send me for an MRI of my neck. Last week which came back with slightly elevated levels of CK. I explained to him of the dull aches and slightly weakened grip in both of my forearms intermittently so he suggested that we get a rheumatlogist/neuro specialist to have a look.

I play alot of football and i havent been playing to the level i normally do due to a hot and cold flashes with a sensation from the back of my head going down my body like pins and needles. Doesn't affect my mobility but just the lack of energy that i never really had a problem with.

Along with the above i do get muscle twitching all over my body, tremors in legs arms, and occasional random jolts... Which only appears to come on since worrying so i put that down to anxiety.

Before i had the ultrasound of my thyroid the doctor did do a thyroid function test which came back ok. this was almost a year ago

I too have a nodual on my thyroid, my levels have been normal for the most part, I have hashimoto thyroiditis . That can cause elevated ck levels. You might want to check with an endocrinologist. Sound like a thyroid issue to me. In my opinion.

No. Your symptoms sound NOTHING like a fatal illness.

Hi Everyone,

Until yesterday I had discounted the idea that I could have ALS,MND

Last night when putting my shoes on and putting pressure on my toes in my right foot, I noticed spasms, twitching in two of my toes on my right foot. Ability to move toes is fine along with strength in the toes. They just seem to tremor in my right foot when putting pressure on those toes. and then twitch a little bit after. And wondering if that could relate to my slightly elevated KC levels.

I'm still experiencing dull ache weak arms but not to the extent that I can't lift them or hold onto something so I'm presuming its more musco skeletal or autoimmune related such as thyroid. I've also noticed that my joints are clicking more than usual when moving. I am 26 and have played football for the last 10 years along with a bit of tennis over the last 6 months.

I do have quite bad posture for my age from working in IT

I'm also suffering from neck ache to the point I'm feeling a weird sensation towards the middle of my upper back and when my other half and I were in a steam room the other day I kept getting pins and needles feeling running through my body.

Thanks for your help in advance

Go back to your doctor. NOTHING you describes sounds like ALS.

Hi dave,i agree with Elaine.....does not sound like als.
Als does not start with throat problems ,your arms could be due to a neck/nerve problem and twitching does not mean a thing without clinical weakness and/or atrophy.

I'm an ALS worrier like you DaveSmith - Since last fall, I've had body-wide muscle twitching, upper back pain, loud clunking/clicking noises in my ears when I swallow, constant phlegm in my throat, tinnitus, joint pain, and heavy/wobbly legs... yet no demonstrable weakness and only a BFS diagnosis. I know that it's impossible sometimes, but try not to worry.

Thanks for all your responses. I would say the only area of concern in that case currently is my three toes on my right foot.. Although I can't tell whether they are weak or not when I put pressure on them or move them they all do move fine.curl them or put pressure against them at a certain angle I am getting some weird twitching, buzzing it would appear. And now intermittently twitching just under the toe. I find it hard to measure weakness on toes that are hardly used for pressure. And I can't see any atrophy in the toes. Just kind of worried that this could be the start. And end up lying in bed not being able to sleep.

Keep in touch with your doctor, and k him about seeing an endocrinologist. They specialize in thyroids and such. Stay com and be happy you don't have the problems we do here.

Tracy

All, I'm sorry to be a pain, but I really just can't keep my mind off this twitching which seems to be consistent now on the toe that sits next to the small toe on my right foot. In terms of trying to explain what it feels like is something moving at the bottom of the arch of that toe. And is more noticeable when I apply pressure to it so I'm scared that the nerve end is starting to die.. If I stretch that foot out completely and tense the toes it is also noticeable the occasional jitter. It doesn't happen in my other foot when trying to replicate it.

I can't notice isn't particular weakness in the toes or atrophy yet. Could this be indicative of my slightly elevated CK levels.

I once had a Morton's Neuroma. It usually occurs between the second and fourth toes and is quite painful. Mine was caused by long distance running. Tried orthotics, and cortisone shots but to no avail. Eventually, I had day surgery (neurectomy) and it was resolved. I don't recall toe twitching, but I do remember burning pain in that area. Perhaps you could research that. With any luck, there may even exit a Morton neuroma forum for you. Or you could check out Steven Tyler's website- he loudly moaned about his Morton's!

Ok thanks Ottawa.. I don't feel any pain with the twitching however?. Does it not sound like how ALS would start? Should I be experiencing weakness in the foot if so?

I promise to stop asking silly questions. It's only because I didn't notice this until a couple of days ago.

You're welcome, Dave. Hey, I can see you spent a lot of time investigating Morton's neuroma - a whole five minutes, per the forum clock.

Dave - for the last time (from me) - stop focusing on a fatal disease. Nothing you report sounds like it.
Go back to your doctor.

Goodbye and good luck.

Hi All,

I am still getting the same twitching in my 2nd toe on the left on my right foot under the knuckle of the toe along with occasional twitches in the big toe and arch. Over the last two days at work I've also started experiencing involuntary twitching/moving in my thumb and index finger. My arms are tremoring constantly aswell. I went to see a chiropractor beginning of the week and he didn't notice any areas of weakness or when testing my reflexes didn't notice anything. I was just wondering if these symptoms sound like anything other than anxiety. I'm waiting for a neuro appt in November which my doctor referred to me after i complained about dull aches in my arms when my blood test showed slightly elevated CK levels.

Sorry, can i reiterate that the twitching under my toe has been in the same place for the week intermittently. And I find it's more noticeable or more intense when putting pressure on it. I'm more concerned that this is could be an early stage of it as I am 26 years old and I know there are people at that age with it.
