Hi guys I'd like to kindly ask you for comments regarding my strange diagnosis procedure.
I'm very close to status "suspective ALS" as I have all the symptoms of low motorneuron disfunction (fasciculations, loss of muscle volume etc.) but I'm being kept on diagnosis of BFS as my EMG shows only fasciculations not fibrillations or sharp waves.
My doctor is neuromuscular specialist.
Do you have any experiences with that status? What will happen - is the doctor waiting for "stronger" EMG evidence? Or will he finally diagnosed me base on clinical findings only?

Fasciculations whether on EMG or seen/ experienced otherwise are irrelevant to diagnosis. If your EMG showed only fasciculations it was for all intents and purposes normal. In the US no one is likely to diagnose ALS without both an exam showing umn signs and clinical weakness and an EMG showing fibs, psws and motor unit remodeling in more than an isolated muscle. You should be asking your expert doctor what he thinks. He examined you and presumably has an opinion

Thank you, Nikki. Well, my next exam should be a lumbar puncture. However I'm not giving it a big chance as I can hardly imagine what disease could be found to explain muscle wasting :-(

That's why doctors get the big money. They know the realities of many things we can't even imagine. Trust your doctor.
