Hello everyone. Thanks for taking the time to read this; I have had some symptoms over the last 2 years, which are yet to be diagnosed.

I have had tight, crampy muscles for a few years - most of the time, my feet/calves/thighs/forearms/tongue all feel as though they are on the verge of a cramp.
I have bodywide twitching along with this, and recently a few intermittent patches of burning sensation in the skin.
I can no longer exercise at the gym without my muscles developing a full-on cramp, which then takes a few days to fully calm down (nothing helps this).

I don't have any clinical weakness (though I feel weaker than ever), and I am not having slurred speech/trouble swallowing.

I saw a Neurologist 12 months ago: normal brain/spine MRI, negative Babinski, very brisk bodywise reflexes, bilateral clonus in the feet, but normal sensation and strength.
I had an EMG 10 months ago (calf and tongue); I have never received an official result, though the person performing it seemed to be happy with it at the time.

I haven't wanted to bother the Doctors again over the last year, but I can no longer deny that things are progressing slowly, so I plan on seeing the Neurologist again.

My question is: have you heard of anyone who has this combination of symptoms before progressing to clinical weakness? I can't help but think that I'm on the verge of of these symptoms spilling over into something more serious, given the muscular symptoms in combination with the reflexes/clonus. I'm trying to not think too much about it since it is completely out of my control, but I would greatly appreciate a response.

Many Thanks!

I have not. There is a benign cramp syndrome, that seems a possibility. If you have tried pickle juice, tonic water, and things of that nature, as well as hydration heavy on electrolytes, I would ask your GP to run a CMP (metabolic panel) to see if there might be an underlying imbalance.

Also, you could try therapeutic massage, Pilates, ballet, tai chi and other muscle-lengthening stretching as opposed to the static lifts/pulls/strokes that you might be doing at the gym.

I had wondered about Cramp Fasciculation Syndrome; it’s on my list of questions for the Neurologist.

Pickle juice? I’ll give that a try, plus the tonic water - thank you.

I wonder whether it is worth asking for a new EMG, since the symptoms have worsened a lot?
