Hi everyone!
First off sorry for posting here, I’m ill over this and don’t know where else to turn!
I’ve seen my doctor and she’s referred me to see a neurologist but with corona it’s taking forever.
I have been having twitching in body, eyes, arms, legs ect for 6 weeks! Mostly my right leg and foot, My 3 middle toes do this weird falling twitching then curl under. I can walk on my toes and heels. I have had bad cramping in my legs but that’s started to relax more.
I know you guys aren’t doctors but does this look like the start of ALS???
I have a baby and I’m petrified.
Thanks in advance!!!

No, it doesn't. Widespread twitching is not characteristic of any ALS onset.

I would look at your diet, hydration, exercise, stress and sleep, and re-evaluate the support that your bed, pillow, mattress and work chair are giving you. If you are not walking every day, that's another thing to try.

Best,
Laurie

Thank you!
The doctor ran a battery of bloods and everything was ok!
She was the one who said we couldn’t rule out ALS and now I’m insanely anxious!!
Then I stupidly read online and seen people write the have it and it started with twitching all over, I never like to believe random websites that’s why I joined this!!
I just wasn’t sure if what was happening to my toes was them gradually getting weakness!
I feel so much better after your reply! Thank you!

So guys update,
I’m booked for an emg on the 15th and I’m a nervous wreck!
The twitching is now mostly in my right leg, buttock & foot, the middle toes are still twitching and curling under when I walk or my toes are relaxed. ( I have perceived weakness in my right arm but not clinical)
I can’t even function right now, the thought of anything being wrong & leaving my baby has me petrified.
I don’t know how I will cope going for the test without falling apart.
Does this still not sound like ALS?
Sorry for asking again, I’ve just had a tough year and so scared it’s about to get worse.

Laurie is one of our most knowledgeable members, so you should heed her reassurance.

It strikes me that you may need to access some help for your anxiety if you're struggling to cope. The folk here, while helpful and generous with their time and advice, don't always have a lot in their tanks to help people who come here with extreme anxiety. There are some great forums out there for peer support and you will find many folk who have struggled with what you are encountering who can provide an ear and help you through. No More Panic, Anxiety Central and Anxiety Community Forums are all great resources.

Please let us know how your appointment goes on the 15h.

Hi, I’m usually not an anxious person but I have had a few back to back miscarriages this year so maybe it’s anxiety.
I was fine and wasn’t even worried about ALS until the doctor mentioned it, I just presumed I had a trapped nerve or something.
So sorry, I won’t ask anymore.

The toe thing really doesn’t sound familiar to me and I am leg onset.

you have a baby and you had miscarriages too? Aside from the emotional toll which was considerable your body has been through a tremendous amount of physical stress. Even though your bloodwork was ok you must be depleted and with a little one not getting rest as well

do let us know after your appointment. I fully expect good news. In the meantime though log off and spend some time taking of yourself

good luck

Hi sorry I need to stop calling him my baby, he’s 2!! He will always be my baby I guess.
Things have calmed down and now mostly just twitching in my right leg & foot. Like I said I’m so sorry if I upset anyone, I’m not a hypochondriac or someone with health anxiety, it was the doctor who said we couldn’t rule out als and boom obviously I freaked, I sort of think that’s normal no? Anyway I’m praying it’s nothing serious, my middle toes haven’t been curling under as much so yay but having cramps in leg and toes along with the twitching.
Again sorry for asking, I just seen this chain & presumed I could ask even while freaking out.
prayers & love to all.

I’m also having upper back spasms & like I said in first post perceived weakness/stiffness in right arm/thumb.
hopefully I can come back saying emg showed nothing serious.

A doctor who says "We can't rule out X" is often being conservative and possibly believes that is a good explanation for why s/he is ordering tests, but most often the tests are to rule it out, not because they think it's a serious possibility. Symptoms that wax and wane as you're describing are even less likely to represent anything serious.

You may not have health anxiety in the best of times, but when things we can't explain occur, it is only natural to feel some. The trick is to recognize it for what it is and not let it derail or supercede the diagnostic process, and to be in a place where you are able to hear what should be very welcome words, that it is a benign variant, should that be the case.

Thank you!!

Today I’m having pain/burning/pulling feeling, to be honest I’m sure I need an MRI rather than and emg I’m sure it’s something wrong with my spine, herniated disc or pinched nerve.
I will do the emg because of the twitching in my right leg though, it will put my mind to 1000%
ease, I trust in medical tests.
The widespread twitching gets less each day in my arm, back & chest, apart from my right calf & foot ( big thumps for 3-4 beats then little ones, my middle toes haven’t been twitching & falling under as much so that’s a great sign!!
I just wanted to thank you guys again for all the reply’s, I’ve also booked to speak to someone who specialises in anxiety even though I don’t think I have it ( admitting I did go into complete panic when als was mentioned from doctor though)

Guys don’t feel the need to answer if you don’t want to!! I understand!!
I’m getting so nervous for my EMG coming up this week, just to be clear the twitching in my leg and toes mean nothing without any clinical weakness right?
I can walk, walk on toes, walk on heels, use my arms ect.
I can walk into it confident it won’t be als right? I’ve read so many mixed comments on this about people who say twitching without failure means nothing, then read people who said they only had twitching and cramps in the beginning, it’s messing with my head.
After this comment I will see if any reply’s after that I’m logging off the internet until after my test.

I'm confident -- and a week isn't long even if you aren't.

Do something that will improve your own life and/or someone else's over the next several days, and the days will go faster. Hanging out here or googling symptoms totally do not qualify, as you acknowledge.
