I am 39f. I’ve experienced what I describe as arm and leg weakness with sporadic intermittent twitching all over body since 2018. Dr’s did major medical work up then,Labs and vitamins all normal. They did see I have Hashimotos and currently take meds for and is under control.
The MRI in 2019 was checking for MS and imaging showed a spinal cord impingement c5-c7 that required an ACDF decompression surgery with cadaver bone and hardware in 2019. I felt I had the answer to my symptoms. Because even then I was worried about ALS. Some time after surgery not sure how long maybe 6mo after surgery the arm and leg weakness continued with right calf “giving me a feeling of being off”. Not weaker just felt off.
Did more work up and EMG was normal in 2019. Fast forward and time between I would have good days and bad days feeling fatigue in arms and legs with continued twitching all over BUT not until October this year now my symptoms have stayed with no good days.
I can walk maybe 10 steps then I start to feel a burning sensation in both my inner thigh muscles and some muscle stiffness above right knee. My question is could this be due to actual muscle weakness in a portion of my legs, and that I’m over using or compensating it causing the inner thighs to burn from overuse?
When I stand I have to constantly switch my weight from one leg to the other to give it a break. It feels like it will give out any moment, and at times will even tremble upon standing or from walking or climbing stairs.
I’ve seen a local neurologist who did the full physical exam, heel toe walk, wasn’t easy but can do it and she saw no brisk reflexes and scored 5/5 with no clinical weakness but ordered a EMG for Jan. I’ve also made and apt and have just seen another neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic who upon physical exam didn’t see clinical weakness, or presenting signs of ALS reviewed my extensive medical work up ordered more labs(for multiple myeloma) and other autoimmune diseases which were all negative but she ordered a EMG with ALS protocols.
I’m so confused why some people have clinical weakness but can still use the affected limb, and does that sound like what my muscles could possibly be doing? I also have clumsy hands with my fine motor ability is mildly effected, I can do zipping buttoning etc but due to my forearms feeling stiff it does cause some more effort.
I have been told by my mother that my legs looks skinnier but that is due to my health anxiety causing me to not eat and lose 20 lbs since June. I’m currently on meds now and have put on weight since taking anxiety medication. But I also experience a tremor not sure if from the meds or exhausted muscles. I go December 23 for my next EMG. Any insight please send my way and thank you for your time in replying!
