First, I know I need to get into a specialist. Because I’m functional, I’m waiting to see how things materialize.

January 2020- began having spasms in my calves throughout the day. Decided to lay off running

March 2020- spasms have spread to randomly throughout my body. Both calves, both biceps and triceps, neck muscles, hand muscles. The most concerning ones are in my abdominal area because the oddity of it. Tested my strength in the gym and found nothing out of ordinary so I forgot about it

May 2020- Spent a day outside playing sports with friends and woke up the next day with my right arm and hand super sore. This lasted for 2 weeks and never completely went away. I did some research then noticed my right hand has less muscle than my left. All the while my body is still twitching and spasming throughout the day.

July 2020- was sitting in my bosses office cross legged and noticed burning on the outside of my ankle when I lifted my foot.

Today- I’m greatly concerned. I spasm all day long. Every body part. There seem to be hot spots in my Left quad, right calf, and right bicep. When I wake up after I spasm the second I sit up. I’ve had a full blood test done and they were clear. My right arm is weaker then my left. My bicep and forearm burns from fatigue when I try to use my right hand to do anything. My left ankle and shin burn from fatigue when I walk. If I use my arm regularly, it spasms. I’ve pretty much prepared for the worst. I’ve started a will. I’ve updated my life insurance beneficiaries. Im not the type that overreacts, and as an ex-NCAA D1 scholarship athlete, I know my body pretty darn well, but I’ve pretty much accepted that this could be the beginning of the end. The only thing I’m holding out hope on is that I still have absolute strength, but not endurance. It’s the wildest thing. I can do 50 push-ups, and jump the same on both legs, but I’m shot before a 2nd set of anything. I wasn’t at all concerned until my right ankle started getting weak.

Frankly, I’m scared and I need advice. There seems to be a belief on the forums that spasming doesn’t predate weakness, and that ALS presents itself through loss of mobility as function, not soreness, but the majority of scholarly articles disagree. As a relatively highly educated dude, I’ve read probably 100 hours of scholarly articles. Am I overthinking this?

Jamms, you wrote....

Am I overthinking this?" YES!.

I'm sure others will comment. :)

As a "highly educated dude", reading over 100 hours of "scholarly " articles is over thinking anything. As well, as a "highly educated dude", what you are experiencing by way of symptoms is subjective and not considered objective until confirmed by a medical professional.

Your symptoms do not speak to ALS in the slightest, which is fantastic. What they are, remains to be determined by your doctor. Please read the pinned sticky entitled "important, read before posting ", to understand what symptoms possibly indicate ALS, and what symptoms do not. Thankfully yours fall into the latter.

Best of luck to you.
