My first Peg with dangling tube was placed one month ago. It's currently covered by a binder with velcro. The home health nurse told me most peg patients continue to wear the binder to protect the peg cord. It feels like I'm wearing a corset. Please suggest any other options. I can have irritation from tape, so that's not an option.

Thanks,
Heather

You can put some paper tape or maybe use one of those things that you use to contain computer cords around the tube and then tape it to your clothes. That is what my sister did. Just be sure you are remember to unpin before you change clothes. The paper tape on the tube would be better because it wouldn’t slide

My husband had a mesh netting thing that he wore that went around his abdomen. It wasn't very tight but kept his dangling tube from getting in the way. It came in a long roll and he just got off a new piece when he needed a new one. If you search for "tubular elastic dressing net" you will find various sizes. His was from the VA, but you can find something similar online.

I like the blue Nexcare tape. My spouse found it in the local grocery store! I can re-use it a couple times, and it doesn't irritate my skin like the paper tape does.

The plastic disk ("bumper") creates skin irritation when it touches my skin a lot (then red polka dots appear). Therefore, as the tube emerges from the stoma, I point it up a bit, then curve it down, and tape it down just above the ports.

Also I use a McKinney split sponge between the bumper and the skin.

I see no reason to be "corseted." Have you asked the nurse why that might be helpful for some people?

I was extremely worried about my PEG. The first week or two I also used the binder. I soon realized that was not going to be a long term solution at all. Paper tape does not stick to me. My first one was long enough to use a clip to fasten to the strap on my A shirt. The second one is shorter so that is not going to work. I have thought about using a lanyard to try and loosely attach to the tube but have gotten to that yet. For now it just hangs out. I also use a split sponge at night. I hope this helps.
