Good news. My local independence center has a person who is a hospital bed matchmaker. Yesterday he didn't have any donated beds available but he called today because someone called him with a bed to donate. It's partially electric, supposedly in very good shape, I have to transport but not very far. I am going to press my 19yo into service -- maybe he can recruit a friend to help. When I get the proper type of bed, I will cram this one into the garage until the matchmaker finds me a donee.
Apparently I forgot to hit "Post" when I wrote this. I've had the donated bed for a few days now. My spouse bought a platform for a twin bed which is snugged up to my hosp. bed. He's a couple inches lower than me -- not too bad. The first night, he was in a mattress on the floor and our cat used his chest as a springboard to jump up to my bed -- quite a startling way for him to wake up!
