Hi everyone,
Ive been on a number of times over the years. My dad has flail arm Als. We are 1.5 years into dx and 3 years onset. Recently he is complaining of neck/shoulder stiffness and pain and some pain in left arm. His neck is not leaning forward, still seems strong. Is anyone experiencing pain and what do you do for it? Thank you kindly.

When the shoulder joints are weak, it is very easy for them to subluxate and that can cause pain. I would make doubly sure he does not lift or have his arms lifted without elbow and shoulder support, and that seated, there is foam or gel under his elbows and forearm at all times.

The kind of heating pad with natural materials inside, that you can put over his shoulder, may help, along with reconstitution of the joint/therapeutic massage of the back without moving the shoulder. PT should be able to show you this if you are not already.
