Pain In hand and arm

My mother's left arm and hand have really shrunk in the past month or so. She holds it across her as much as possible and if anyone touches it she cries. Is this normal for atrophy? We have tried to get her to go have an xray because she has fallen off and on for the past few months. She refuses. Her fingers on the left hand are curling but she won't wear a brace.

Hi Lisa. That doesn't sound normal for atrophy but does sound normal for a hand injury sustained in a fall. Keep pushing for her to get it looked at.

My mother was the same way....if anyone touched her hands or arms she would literally cry. the doctor prescribed the morphine patch however her mood changed drastically! Became very nasty and bitter. We tried to wean her off it but it was hard. You should speak to her DR about it!
