Get Real
I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with my special contact at the VA.

The Veterans Choice Program no longer exists. *No longer exists.
Discontinued… PERIOD!

It is now called “Community Care.”

You have to go a Primary Care Physician FIRST who will refer
you to a say Neurologist who participates in the program.
You will not be able to choose say a Neurologist you’d rather
prefer or maybe close by.

If you are already seeing say a Neurologist to get “Community Care”
to cover it is where it is really an ‘effin mess (sorry I’m ill)… if he/she
participates.

Just 5 days ago this President boasted about his “Veterans Choice
Program" and he had to have known it was being discontinued.

The Veterans Choice Program no longer exists.

I'd go on further but I am ill... not just me but for all Veterans.

I am confused. Veterans choice ( signed into law by Obama in 2014) had a sunset in 6/2019 but the Mission Act signed into law by Trump 2018 replaced it and became effective 6/2019. the rules seem a little different and it looks like you need the outside provider to be participating ( guessing they have to agree to reimbursement amounts). Did something happen to the Mission Act today?

Yes.

If you did any research your info may be outdated. Stay tuned... it's coming.

It's been kept under the radar.

The Veterans Choice Program no longer exists. Unless my contact at the VA
was lying to me... which I highly highly doubt.

I did research and yes veterans choice is gone and has been for over a year. That is what I said. I could not find anywhere that the mission act is gone. It is different somewhat than choice but it has been going on for over a year. Were you told something changed as of today?

the mission act is the community care but isn’t new https://www.va.gov/COMMUNITYCARE/docs/pubfiles/factsheets/VA-FS_CC-Eligibility.pdf

Yes.

Nikki, are you referring to "Community Care?

That is what it will be from now on.

Trying to avoid politics.... just 5 days ago the President boasted about
"Veterans Choice" and you said... it's been gone for a year. ?

"Community Choice" will require what I wrote above.

It's just another mess Veterans don't deserve.

Community care is what it appears to be called. ( see link) It has some provision for veterans to be seen outside the VA if distance or wait times meet criteria or if the va doesn’t have a service ( like maternity care)This is the program the current president signed into law. Veteran’s choice was signed by his predecessor in 2014 and no longer exists under that name . Those are historical facts.

I have no opinion on how different the programs are in practice

Nikki,

Ok, after some reflection what caught me aloof was that I have a Veterans Choice Card.
BUT I haven't used it. So when I recently read it no longer exists I said, "Well, what in
hell do I have a card for?" So I called.

So, I guess I owe apology for starting this Thread. Ooops.

But... it does have VALUE with you posting the link... thank you.

I guess I need to look into things in the later evening when things are quieter with Ann.

Thanks again.

Just a reminder that political discourse belongs in Rants & Raves -- we want to keep this section useful for all vets. Thanks to all who served and continue to contribute to our community!
