My daddy went to a sleep study to get an BiPaP machine, we were so excited that he would be able to get some sleep laying down. Well now they aren't going to give it to him because they say his lungs can't handle the pressure. Has anyone heard of this before? And I sure could use some advice on what to do now because dad dosen't want on a vent..... please tell me what to do now to help him...

I don't understand why his lungs could not handle the bipap? If that is true, then a vent would be excluded too.

I think I would fight for a better answer and then fight to get him a bipap. I had problems with getting support and the correct answers as well, but finally found the support we need 500 miles away..........we are moving!

Don't give up.....find out why. Take care - I said a prayer for you both!

Hi Tonya. Was this an ALS clinic that made the recommendation? Cindy

That just doesnt sound right to me about the Bipap--I would get more info/another opinion on this--esp with someone that knows ALS well. I have never heard of a PALS being told this....
Good Luck ---Keep after it! Beth
