Hi, everyone I'm Laura, & my mom has ALS. She was officially diagnosed with Bulbar ALS just a year ago but has had symptoms for 2-3 years. Her disease has progressed rapidly; we started with hospice yesterday. I'm one of 5 children/stepchildren, but the only daughter and most local to mom and my stepdad (who has rapidly progressing Lewey Body Dementia).
Even as I'm finding my way through this, somedays it seems as if my head is spinning. We are all trying to do the best we can. I'm handling about half of mom's g-tube feedings and almost all of the calls and crises, which come several times daily. I have three semi-adult sons (ages 20, 21 & 24) who are helping as much as they can. I also have lots of support from my mom's two sisters.
I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I've been reading the threads and am so awed by the incredible warmth and support and caring on the forums. It's a help to me, just reading the threads.
Sending out good thoughts to all of the ALS community: those w/the disease, caregivers, family and friends.
