Hi All

I have not posted for a while , but have been looking at your news and commenting from time to time.

Mum is deterioating quickly. We can barely understand her , she has lost the use of her hands and is struggling with swallowing. Her appetite is almost non-existent.

My question is , that because Mum is refusing medical intervention ( with our agreement ) ie does not want a peg or mechanical breathing assistance, is there anything there as an alternative ? Her MND nurse said there is medication that can help.

Kind regards to you all

If you have decided against life saving devices, the only thing they can do is medicate her to keep her comfortable.

Have you been in touch with hospice?

Thanks Joel - we have not , as yet as she is in a nursing home and they offer palliative care. Mum is also very comfortable with her carers now , especially the lead nurse who is very clued up and caring.

At this point in time we feel a move would distress her , to her detriment , and she agrees.

Kind regards

Sounds like she is in the right place.

They are likely already doing all they can for her.

My heart goes out to you!
