My Gp reffered me for urgent appointment
Hello all,

I am a 38 year old female. I have been have all over body twitch’s for 2 week and some tongue twitch’s also.
I went to my Gp and she took a look at my tongue and said she has to send me for a urgent neurological referral.

I was so scared and shocked I have access to my online medical note and she said in my note on my referral she want them to rule out bulbar palsy! I am so scared I don’t know what to do I have 4 small children and I’m really scared.

Everyone is saying that she is just being safe and trying to rule everything out but I’m really scared.

I keep checking my tongue and asking my family members to let me check theirs. I know I should just stop worrying and wait for appointment but I can’t eat or sleep with worry.

😔

If your only symptom is twitching I think the doctor is being extremely cautious and frankly this isn’t urgent except maybe they said it because of the insane wait times in the UK. If you read Important - READ BEFORE POSTING! Answers to common concerns about possible symptoms we discuss twitching and tongue twitching specifically. It is virtually always benign in the non ALS population.

An anecdote we once had a member diagnosed solely on the basis of tongue twitching. They then went to an ALS specialist, had a proper exam and testing - no ALS. The original doctor was reprimanded. Your doctor did not diagnose and is just being cautious. As to what they wrote,if they didn’t write suspicion for something serious they couldn’t ask for an urgent appointment. If the had put tongue twitching the consultant would put you on the bottom of the list if they agreed to see you at all
