Newbie ... what an informative post. Thank you for that clear explanation. It explains perfectly what is happening with me. And welcome to the forum !
 
My father does the same thing. Wow, glad to know this is more common then I thought. It sounds almost like he is in pain, but he also says he is not.
 
Newbie's post explains a lot to me too, Beth. I must differentiate between Rick's ALS and Bulbar ALS. Rick apparently doesn't have the same sort of symptoms. His mumblings are actual sentences where he is talking to himself. He says it helps him think. He will even go......Buh, buh buh, buh buh, when he is thinking of which card to play during our games with my sister and brother-in-law. We just look at each other and smile. He never used to do these things.... neither did he continually scrape his plate when there's nothing left on it. I put up and shut up.... figure I'm doing him....both of us.... a service.

See, ALS presents itself in many forms. We are similar yet different.
