Sorry he had to go through all that! You remember them pegging me while I was still wide awake don't you? OMG! Now I know what it feels like to get stabbed in the stomach, not to mention choking on the endoscope! LOL! Sounds like you went to S'ville? That place is awefull! With a capital A! From now on..I will always go downtown, and run for the hills if I see another petite little greenhorn fixing to work on me! I'm gonna let mine rot out before I get it replaced! How is Daddyo doing now?

Hey, Phil! Actually, we went to General Surgery, in the same waiting area as the Neurology Dept for the ALS Clinic (BLDG A - 3rd floor)! Although, when I called them, they kept telling me we hadn't been there, like I didn't know where I drove to! LOL I had to describe the the waiting room and address before the lady I needed help from would give me the time of day. Moot point now, since the tube came out! Don't need the feeding extension tube now!

DaddyO is resting in his bed. Drugs must be helping.

Did they use a tool that stretches out the mushroom end of the long tube? Or do they just pull the darn thing out? The long tube doesn't bother me much. I just wish it was bigger in diameter. I don't even bother with strapping it down anymore. I just fold it in half, and wrap a short piece of velcro around it. Nicole said the micky can deflate, and fall out. Plus my cat is quite fond of playing with the long tube lol! Hope Daddyo has a quick recovery!

I saw no tool. I would assume that it would need to be inserted into the tube?

Not to belabor the point of this disaster, but...now the syringes I have will not fit into the port properly to flush! The port is of hard plastic and the syringe just wobbles around spills water. I should have known something was wrong in the ER when the nurse tried flushing and water spilled. I just thought he was sloppy!

Oh well...glad hubby doesn't RELY on the tube!

When I had my original tube replaced with the inflatable balloon type in May it was just a matter of the doctor grabbing it and yanking it out. It hurt like hell for a minute and then the new one was in. They wouldn't even let me leave the hospital until they did two Xrays to check that the new tube was in correctly.

The new one does have a harder plastic end but the syringe does stay in if you push it in a little harder and I usually just hold the two together with one hand and pour with the other.

Sorry for all that DaddyO has been through, someone (not you) needs some training.

Barry, did you get another long one, or a Mic-Key?

A long one, which is just fine with me, I am used to it and I can change it out myself (something I am supposed to do every three months and will be doing soon).

barry- hearing you describe your doctor grabbing hold of your tube and yanking it out- and the fact that it hurt like hell- well, its bothersome. Did the doctor deflate the balloon first? If he/she didnt, that isnt good. It really shouldnt be hurting badly. How long have you had it, may i ask?

Liz, that was the first non-balloon type that has the rubber mushroom end and is made to be yanked out. Now I have the balloon type and have replaced it once and it is easy.

Oh. I must have misunderstood. Glad to hear it!

Well, I have two hands BG, and I got nothing! The port is bigger at the mouth and smaller at the "hole" entrance. It's a hard plastic blue thingy. The syringe will not fit in either orifice! Let's just say...it's LAME!

Sorry CJ, that must be different than what I have. Mine is also bigger at the end where the cap is and then is a hard plasic insert (but white not blue) deeper where the 60ml syringe tip sits.

CJ, you weren't insensitive, I can only imagine how frustrating all this stuff is. I hope they can figure out how to make the tube and syringe connect because if they don't they are useless.
Take care

I had my first one for almost 2 years, it was the same as Barry described with a plastic mushroom on the end. The doctor yanked it out with a pop, but unlike Barry it did not hurt. The one I have now has an inflatable balloon and we change it ourselves about every 9 months.
