hi,
i suggest opening one permanent topic/thread, so admin doesnt have to close it when he/she feels that it ended.
lets call it mmj, or cannabis...
many pals are on it, so it is really neccessary.

Threads close automatically if inactive. Rarely, outside of the could I have ALS subforum, are they closed by admins or mods

All we have to do is make sure it doesn't become inactive and it will live on sorta like Tillie's trees.

I'm in!

ok, let's see

I edited a document for Greg but it has live links so I doubt it will be allowed because some of the links might be to places that ask for donations. I'll check it out and maybe post part of it because it answers a lot of questions, especially for people who have not tried cannabis. It would be a good place to start. As I have mentioned before, I never smoked weed or took any illegal drugs. I was hesitant to even try CBD and Greg convinced me to start early and keep with it, especially the CBD. We both found Charlotte's Web to be one of the best CBD oils that could be purchased online. I still take it today as do many of my friends in the condo. Many with amazing results like being able to play golf again at 95 (he also uses topical THC cream on his hands.)

Of course some of this has been posted many times but there hasn't been one ongoing thread that tells experiences/pros/cons about medical cannabis.

Jethro, I'm starting a new topic in the general forum with the title Cannabis for ALS. That way it'll come up in the search better and we'll keep it going.

I've answered many requests for information on medical cannabis for ALS. In this thread we can share our experiences and provide others with information, both good and bad about the use of medical cannabis as a treatment for ALS. I'm going to start with a brief history of my cannabis use and I'll also attach a document (with many links removed for the purposes of this forum) prepared by Greg K. who was a good friend and fellow PALS. Greg passed away this year after helping so many other PALS navigate the immense amount of information about medical cannabis. This thread is dedicated to Greg.

I never smoked weed or did any illegal drugs. Never. After my diagnosis I started researching supplements and other alternative treatments for symptoms related to ALS. I knew right away I wanted to incorporate some anti-inflammatory food and supplements and kept coming across CBD oil. By that time I was a regular member on this forum and met Greg. Greg guided me as regards medical cannabis and confirmed that Charlotte's Web (the CBD oil I was currently taken) was one of the best and urged me to keep taking it but add some THC to it.

Florida was not legal at that time. We needed 60% to pass it and came up 58% in favor. So I got my edibles elsewhere and started a very small dose of THC. The following year Florida became legal and I got my card in January 2017 after convincing my local neurologist, who was a pain management specialist, to jump into the cannabis field. He was skeptical at first but, after talking to his future partner, became convinced that he could get many of his patients with chronic pain off opioids and onto cannabis. And he did!!!!!

As you read through Greg's document, keep in mind that if you have never used drugs or alcohol, start with a very small dose (maybe 5 mg.) Also remember that Indica is more sedating and calming whereas Sativa is more energizing. I use Indica because it got me off Xanax and it helps me sleep.

Attached is Greg's work.

I’ve merged Jethro’s and Kim’s threads. You are now in the merged thread. A minimum of one post every 60 days will keep the thread active.

@kim it is clear why greg thanked to you in his opus magnum.
i have to add lazarus naturals, who are the one of the cheapest and one of the best. they provide composition for every batch. i buy from them. for "puritans", science.bio sels 5000mg of isolate cbd in 30ml (?) tincture, for 99usd+shipping.

my status:
1. started with cw in 11/18. continued with lazarus and amsterdam cbd.now i am on app 200 mg cbd/day+thc+thca
2. thc started in 01/18 with app 10mg. somebody turned off the sunlight, someone rotated earth vice versa, sun exploded, everything like that until i woke up (2 days).i started to elevate dose on 06/19 to 30, 40, 50.... now i am on 100mg/day - started with 100mg/day at 09/19. i doubt it is 100mg. it has mass (i have jewelry scale), but not sure about concentration. why? read below.

i made thcA. yes, A is in the end. it is thc precursor. more investigated than thc. i made 60ml today. tasted it and if this non-psychoactive shot knocked me down, then it can not be 100mg in declared in my daily dosage of thc. btw i bought that thc from "known" guy.
why thcA?? because it is potent non-psychoactive ppar-y agonist&neuroprotector.

it is also agonist for cb1 and cb2, but has very little binding afinity to cb1, specially to cb2.
interesting, it is more documented, described and observed than thc. maybe psychoactivity matters in this case.
harvest ended. drying is on. behiind my back... there will be fresh thc, thca, cbd, cbda...
your turn...

The biggest obstacle here in the US is that medical cannabis is regulated by each state. Some don't allow it at all and some allow it, even recreationally. It is still illegal on the federal level which means insurance doesn't cover it and it cannot be deducted as a medical expense for income tax purposes. Doctors are not allowed to "prescribe it", only recommend it.

Once it becomes legally Federally, the price will come down, taxes from it will increase, and it will be deductible for federal income tax medical expense purposes.

If you live in the US, please write to your representatives about legalizing it for everyone. Big tobacco and especially big pharmacy have poured billions into blocking legalization. You don't have to smoke it and, if you have ALS you shouldn't smoke it. It comes in many forms including candy, pills, tinctures, vape pens, and very concentrated gels. It also comes in topical form and I've found it to be as effective as a tylenol for local pain. I rub it on my knees, back, and shoulders each morning after I shower.

Why should PALS not smoke it? Just wondering...

i dont know what to say. cathy jordan smokes marijuana for a decades. when i had a cough problems, i used thc. it simply - disapeared. problem is that it is not ethernal.
i think that smoking is in a function of fvc. as it drops, smoking becomes harder.
