My husband (88 years old) was diagnosed with ALS 9 years ago. He is still walking unaided and has no other symptoms, except that his fingers are beginning to curl up. How unusual is this? We think ourselves very fortunate.

I would think this is highly unusual, but there are much more knowledgable people on here than me. Was he dx after an EMG? Perhaps he has PLS which is upper motor neuron and progresses much slower than ALS. 🤷‍♀️ either way you/he are indeed fortunate.

It's a spectrum, but nine years is a very long time. If I were 88, I wouldn't question why. I'd just enjoy my life.
