I was officially diagnosed on Oct. 25, 2019, but I have had Lumbar spine problems (bulging discs/stenosis) for a number of years. I have noticed my hips and legs slowly getting weaker over the last year. My question is "how can I tell the if the symptoms are spinal or ALS?"

See your neurologist.

Ha! They have been dying to cut on me for the last ten years, LOL!!!

For my mom's case, she was also suspected as lumbar spine problem and suggested to do surgery for it. we went to another hospital for diagnosis and diagnosed as ALS. We went Standford ALS department(?) for second opinion and finally diagnosed as ALS on August 2017.
