Welcome Troy. Sorry about your mom. The weird thing with this disease is that you never know how much time you have. Hang around as long as you like. I'm sure you'll have something to offer or just get some support.

Troy, so sorry to hear about your dear mom's departure. True, with that illness you never know how much time you have left. May she rest in peace. She is now a new angel in Heaven. May our Father give you peace and comfort. Take care!

Hi Troy,

Very sorry fo the loss of your mother. ALS is just so unpredictable. Hope you can find peace in knowing she is in a better place and that you can move forward, as I'm sure she would have wanted.

My dad died May 22, 2007 from ALS. He fought to the end. He never went on extraordinary measures. It was only really bad for 2 or 3 weeks. He was diagnosed March 4, 2005. I really believe that there is a connection with statins, to reduce cholesterol, and ALS. I wish I had more information about the connection so if anyone does, please forward. Daddy was very strong and healthy until about 6-8 months after he started taking Lipitor. I pray for all the families that have to deal with this horrific disease.

Judy

Sorry to hear about your dad Judy. May he rest in peace. My son passed about 2 weeks after your dad (June 3, 2007) Als is a horrible disease indeed! May God bless you and your family!

Praying for you

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I am a caregiver in muncie for a friend with ALS. She goes to Indy to see the specialist. It seems on unfair that some people are diagnosed and live for a long time and others pass away quickly. I will be praying for you and your family.

Hi Judy, thank you for joining us. Sorry to hear about your Mom. I am sure you miss her. Please feel free to visit anytime. Cindy

judy,
sorry to here about your dad. I am also wondering about any connection to statins as my symptoms started about 6 months after i stated lipitor.

Hi Cheryl. My doctor told me to get off statins. There is a supplement called Salba that is apparently good for lowering cholesterol without the side effects. Zetia is also supposed to be better than statins so my Cardiologist tells me but even it can cause muscle weakness.

My husband cholesterol was 230 but the docs said drugs would only make things worse. We were going the a GP and Nero at that time. They said change the diet so there must be something.
