Hi,

I’m posting here to get feedback from those that have experience with ALS and they ways it can begin.

My story is over the last year, it started with stomach troubles which I had pretty much every blood work up possible ( I bring this up as they showed nothing wrong at all) In the end this kind of solved itself and dissipated through the summer. As the stomach troubles went away I started to get back pain along with fasciculations in my back also.

During this time all of a sudden I had floaters appear in my eyes, literally all of a sudden. In to the fall the floaters were accompanied by headaches and so I went for an MRI which my family doctor said displayed MS but was later ruled out by Neurologist.

Over the last few months i have been having consistent fasciculations throughout my body, not long lasting but noticeable. Along with this I have been having feet cramps and both feet appear to have less muscle. Over the last month I have been having pain in my hands, and wrist especially, along with aching thumbs over the last week or so. After I work out there is considerable trembling in my hands.

I recognize that weakness is mentioned as a key component for ALS and up until this point I don’t feel as though I have any, however I also don’t necessarily know how it presents itself.

I am in good shape overall, however over the last year I have consistently pulled calf muscles, which are often tight to start with. I have seen this mentioned as a starting point for some.

I have seen my family doctor and she does not really show any concern and has not recommended I return to the neurologist.

I realize this is a site where people are dealing with this disease on a daily basis and have a lot of experience in the what it looks like. If anyone could give me their thoughts it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank

Pulled muscles are not a sign of ALS. No idea where you got that.

What did the neurologist suggest as a plan?

The disparate issues you describe seem systemic if anything, but I don't know what tests you've had. If the floaters are still present, you should see a retina specialist. A stretching regimen is often helpful for tight muscles. Many people are exercising inconsistently these days.

What I do know is that you're not describing ALS.

Please read here:

people with ALS don't feel weak - their doctor detects clinical weakness.
