Hello - looking for advice from this community on my symptoms.

I’m a 29/M and about a month ago I started developing muscle pain/cramps (primarily in my thighs). This was accompanied with muscle twitching.

The pain/cramps subsided for about a week or two but now they are back and has spread to my hands as well. I would describe it as a cross between pain/numbness/and cramps.

The twitching has also returned and seems to be occurring sporadically all over (though predominantly thighs and face). I’ve also found myself to be more tired than ussual.

Are these symptoms indicative of early stages ALS?

Thank you in advance for your support.

No.

You need a medical evaluation from your doctor, on symptoms that could mean something or nothing.

All the best. --Laurie

Laurie - thank you for the reply. The hand/wrist pain and weakness has gotten even worse. Should I be concerned?

Pain points away from ALS, as do the rest of your symptoms. If you have not, please read the sticky at the top of the sub-forum entitled "Important, Please Read Before Posting". Please also follow up with your doctor. Perhaps you have a pinched nerve or something similar.

Best of luck to you.

Bestfriends - thank you for the reply!

Just to clarify two conflicting things I’ve seen - is it normal for symptoms to come on this quickly (a few weeks)? Also - is having symptoms on both arms/wrists/hands normal? Today my entire left arm is numb/weak but the right seems fine. The right was bothering me all weekend though.

Any thoughts/advice is truly appreciated. You have no idea how stressed I have been over the past week.

Let’s talk about stress… read over our caregivers “CALS”
sub-forum.

You’ve been stressed?… two very ALS knowledgeable
members have said. “No” and “No”.

You haven’t been seen by a general doctor or Neuro yet.

You wrote…
“You have no idea how stressed I have been over the past week.”

You’ve written that your symptoms come and go… this is
a progressive disease. It starts and it doesn’t come and go.

Stress? How about stress that goes on for months, a year or
more for caregivers (CALS) until the end.

You’re 29 years old… the odds of you having ALS is equal
to the Power Ball Lottery. ALS is a rare disease… the height
of rare gets even greater for those in their 20s and 30s.

Step one: Go to your doctor… any doctor.

Every once and a while a post gets my ire. When I was 29
years the only stress I can remember was my job and which
nightclub to go to.

(Maybe ire was too strong of a word... frustration.)

Move on from the thoughts of ALS… enjoy the other things
that I’m sure surround you. Look around. :)

I also post this for other future "Could this be ALS'ers" who
want to express their stress. Maybe I should have kept my
ire in check.
