Hi every one her, did any one her has tried lithium drug to cure als or did any one got into a trail to treat that, because I have red Daily doses of lithium, a drug used to treat bipolar disorder, have been found to delay progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in an Italian study of 44 people with the disease.

I have been taking lithium and rilutek for past 1.5 years daily. I don't know if it stops the progression, as my condition has been going downhill. My doctor says keep taking it. I haven't had any side effects though.

Lithium is in no way a cure. From what we got from our specialist it isn't even a viable treatment. The wife tried it for a short period of time but had unfavorable side effects so stopped it. You can read more about it through the links at the bottom of this page and decide for yourself along with your Dr if it is suitable for you to be trying it.

My husband takes Lithium and I cannot say whether it has helped slow the disease down, but it has helped him with cramps. He will continue to take it until they can offer something better.

Everyone will probably have a different opinion. Maybe because everyone is different EH !

I tried lithium for 7 months and all it did for me was make me very tired and yawn all day. Did it slow my progression down , I dont think so. I had some wicked mood swings coming off of it, even though I weened my self off of it slowly. Wish I had not started it. I was not in a trial , but had a GP look at the italian trial with me and went for it. I wont miss those blood tests either.

Im not telling anyone not to try it. That needs to be a personal call. If you do try it , good luck , I hope it helps.

thanks guyes for your reply, its a friend of mine they offered him that

I tried it for 3 months and felt it sped up my decline. A few friends also had the same happen. I was told that it appeared to help bulbar symptom patients more than limb onset. I don't have direct proof though.
